I need some clarification about the term, the Third Society in the town of Preston. I know that it was applied to the Third Society congregational church. However, in the 1810 federal census, it is used as the town my ancetors lived in, as Third Society, New London, Connecticut. Was the Third Society an organized township or village or solely for the church? Thanks, Janet
