    1. [CTNEWLON-L] Cole House in Colchester & Porter House in Hebron
    2. Colchester vs. Hebron - Hartford Court Case 1761, 1764. Our ancestors (the DEAN family) were involved in the above court case Below is an excerpt from the testimony of SAMUEL GILLET. At the conclusion of the excerpt I pose several questions. The testimony of SAMUEL GILLET of Lebanon in West Haven county of lawful age is as followeth – in the hard winter (1740/41) I lived at my father’s in Colchester near the house now called COLE HOUSE in Colchester, and SETH DEAN and his family lived in said winter at said Cole House and at the time Seth Dean began MR. TARBOX' MILL, said family lived at said Cole House and at the time the ??? began said Dean and family lived at said Cole House, for I went to conference meetings there upon the desire of MRS. DEAN a ??? to it, for her daughter EASTER (Esther) under great concern, and PETER SHUCKER lived in said winter with PHILIP GUY of Lebanon and took care of Guy’s goats, and so SETH DEAN stocked guns in said winter at said Cole House, and after said DEAN began said mill his family moved from the school house in Colchester to the PORTER HOUSE - IN HEBRON and said DEAN lived in Colchester four or five years at said Cole House before his family moved into Hebron, and while said DEAN lived at said Cole House, they had one child that died there and one child, JOHN (DEAN) born there. Hebron, Hartford (Superior) County February 16, 1764 1. Can anyone tell me anything about the COLE HOUSE in COLCHESTER or the PORTER HOUSE in HEBRON during this time period? SETH DID own land in Lebanon until about 1730. 2. JOHN DEAN b. abt 1733, ANNE DEAN b abt 1736 & died in 1738. We have been searching for sometime for the reference to John's birth - Does anyone know where we might find such a record? So far we've turned up only blanks! We've already tried the "standard " official places in Hebron and Colchester. Anyone have access to church records? This case is most interesting! Thanks for any answers you can provide! Debbie, CA
