    3. While I believe that I can help with your specific question, her is a DOW Website: http://steve.dow.net/roots.htm . There is a small piece about the preacher, Lorenzo Dow. http://www.hampton.lib.nh.us/genealog/index.htm Lane Library, Hampton, New Hamphshire (This is a good reference library for families such as Dow, Bacheller, Hussey, Sandburn and others that resided around Hampton, NH. There is information about a number of DOW family members; and this website has been here for sometime. I descend fro Henry Dow, the first Dow to America;and I descend from the Connecticut branch, many of whom lived in Windham County, CT. The "Book of Dow" (c)1929 by Robert P. Dow: This book has a cumbersome labelling system. I do have a copy. My GG-Grandmother was Orra Dow of Sterling, Windham County, CT m. John Gallup Windham County, CT. The name "Orra" is a family name, that I also bear as Orrie for a middle name. My father was Orrin and his mother was Orra/"Orrie" Emilie Greene, Griswold, New London County, CT. Enjoy the DOW Website! 3. Thanks to all those who responded to my request on the Rogerenes. I have since received a lead on where some records might be but the place is closed for the next couple of weeks. It is interesting how each one of us interpret what the Rogerenes were. Hardly a cult, as they still agreed with the basic tenets of the Congregational Church but believed in literal interpretation of the bible (as they saw it) and so said the Sabbath did not have to be on Sunday, baptism whould be as it was by Christ (immersion), and the government had no right to impoase fines and penalties for religious reasons. And Saltonstal took John Rogers beliefs personally and was extremely cruel to him -- thought Rogers was doing these things to spite him (Saltonstall). Hardly very Christian himself. I am reading a lengthy biog sent to me by NEHGS and will be visiting the online articles suggested. Thanks so much. Pat. Maher ____________________________________________________ Sell on Yahoo! It is just birth records under a 100 years that you are not supposed to access Just a note - to access vitals in CT you have to be a member of a Geneological Society --- not just anyone can go into the Town Clerk's Office and look through their records. 3. OK, while I'm usually helping friends find ancestors born before dirt was invented, this birth certificate request is a ***little*** different. I have a friend born the same year as me, 1974, who has a very strong reason to suspect that he has a mystery sibling (through his father) in the area. This mystery person, whom some of his relatives will slightly acknowledge the existence of and others won't say a word, would have been born in the 1973-1975 range at the hospital in New London. Should the person exist, it's not certain whether my friend's father's name would even be on the birth certificate. Here in Burlington, I know I could just wander into the vault, grab the right books and page away until I was done with my search. It sounds like New London is more complicated. Obviously, this is a very sensitive subject. Anyone with suggestions of how to check the records or further recommendations should feel free to e-mail me privately. Thanks, Erica --- Mom2AJ@aol.com wrote: > > > Depends, the person has had to have been born 100 > years ago or an immediate > parent or grandparent. Marriage and Death Records are open to the public not matter the time. Another suggestion, if you know where they are possibly buried than you can go to the cemetery and get copies of the plot cards. Hey there, I'm new to the list so this may be a very obvious question, but can I just walk into the records vault at the New London Town Clerk and look for a birth certificate? 1. Bentley Y-DNA Project
    2. Bentley Y-DNA Update The Y-DNA testing of the initial group of members is complete with interesting results. Six members submitted samples and pedigrees showing descent from William Bentley of Ampthill, England who settled in RI in 1671. Four persons had 36 out of 37 matches and one had 34 out of 37. One did not match and has enlisted a cousin for a confirming test. (See B1-B5) Three members submitted samples showing a relationship to Daniel Bentley who married Nancy Jane Lewis and their descendants who settled in Letcher Co, KY. Two were a perfect match for 12 markers and one did not match and has enlisted a relative for a confirming test. Interestingly, another member submitted a sample with no knowledge of his ancestry and apparently is a descendent of Daniel and Nancy. (See B101-103) That leaves one member who does not have a matching member; two members who did not confirm their ancestry; the two confirmation members whose results are not completed and one new member whose testing is in process. Hopefully with new members, they all will eventually find a match to confirm their pedigrees. If you are interested in observing these results or in joining the Project, please go to our website at http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/b/bentley/ If you have any questions please contact me at bentleydna@cs.com Larry Bentley

    2. Please note that the Rogerenes were in part an offshoot of the Seventh Day BAPTIST or "Sabbatarian" church which had congregations in Westerly and other parts of Rhode Island -- not to be confused with the larger and later Seventh- Day Adventists. (The early Baptists and Quakers were often not all that distinct either.) The Seventh Day Baptists migrated into CT and NY and WI, also to NJ and WV. Their historical society has a small on-line presence and has a fine one-room library in Janesville, Wisconsin, that's an indispensable trip if your ancestors were of this faith. I own the book "The Antecedents and Descendants of Noah Whipple," of the Rogerene Community at Quakertown, CT. and didn't find your names *Hattie* ROGERS or *David* MINARD/MINER in it. Have many Rogers and just 2 Miners...no Minards. The book goes back to James Rogers who died in 1688. C.Robinson

    3. Hi Patricia, I do not see this Hattie (or Harriet) Rogers or David Miner/Minard in the 1902 family history of James Rogers of New London, CT and His Descendants. There is a John Rogers family of Milford, CT that is contemporary with that of James Rogers of New London, CT. All the best. : ) Eric -----Original message----- From: Patricia Maher edithmaher@yahoo.com Date: Thu, 7 Jul 2005 14:23:10 -0600 To: CTNEWLON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [CTNEWLON-L] Rogerene Church > Are there Rogerene Church Records free online? 3. Thanks to Pat Maher and to David Hoffman as we now have information about the Rogerene Church I found it very interesting. Although, the settlement was referred to as Quakertown, I do not believe that the Roberene Church were Quakers. In fact, there was an early Quaker Meeting House in Killingly, Windham County, Connecticut. Rogerene Church -- is this the Seventh Day Adventist Church, that had members moving from Westerly, RI through New London County and settling in Rensselaer County, New York? I found the surname, WHIPPLE in the Rogerene Church articles. THere was a "Whipple School for the DEAF" in the area; and it was thought that one of the sons of William & Mary (Green) Greene may have attendended this school. William & Mary, first cousins, are both grandchildren of LT David & Molly (McWithy/Withey) Green, with Mary as the daughter of Stephen Green of Westerly, RI, who is of the same line as Joseph L. Greene of Westerly, Rhode Island -- see book below: "Descendents of Joseph Greene of Westerly, RI. Also Branches of the Greenes of Quidnesett, or Kingston, RI and other Lines of Greenes in America" by Prinipal Frank L. Greene (Mo. 365)., Joel Munsell's Sons, Publishers, 1894, Albany, NY. Descendents of Joseph went through New London County and one was envolved with my Green line in land transactions. (Members of this family were in New London County; and many were Seventh Day Advents, who migrated on to Renesselaer County, New York. We do not know the ancestery of William, grandfather of LT David Green, but we do know that four of William, Sr's children's births were listed in Stonington, CT's Birth Records -- this included John GREEN, father of LT David Green. These GREEN/GREENEs were of the Preston/Griswold Area. My Grandmother, Orrie Emilie Greene, born 1856 in Griswold, CT md. James Moore, s/o Rev. Hiram & Elvira (Mendenhall) Moore, in IA>OR. (It is through Elvira Mendenhall, that I have Quaker Roots through PA MENDENHALLs and Nantuacket, MA COFFINs.) Thanks for any information as to the exact faith of the Rogerene Church.
