    1. need date of marriage for Henry A. Osborne and Mary Estella Durkee Woodworth
    2. georgia willis
    3. I also posted this on the message board for New London, Ct. I just called the City Clerk's office for New London CT and they said I had to have the date and names to order a marriage certificate. They said there was an index there at City Hall, 181 State Street, New London, CT 06320. Unfortunately I have several problems, FIRST, I am in Orlando, FL and cannot pop in to the City Hall to check the index for myself SECOND, I know the name of the groom, Henry A. Osborne, but I am not sure of the name of the bride. She was married before marrying Henry A. Osborne and I am making an assumption on her previous husband's name. Her birth name was Mary Estella Durkee and I believe she first married someone named Lyman Woodworth but I have spellings in the census records for the children of this marriage as Woodard, Woodward, and Woodworth, so I do not know how she would be listed on the marriage certificate. THIRD, I don't have a date of marriage. Henry A. Osborne and Mary E. Osborne are listed as man and wife on the 1880 census for Norwich, New London, CT. The 1910 census says they were married 30 years. In the 1900 census they have a daughter, Maud K. Osborne born in Oct 1979. So, once again I am making an assumption that they were married In 1879. If there is someone on this mailing list who lives in New London who would be able to check the marriage index for me I would be very thankful. I am hoping that a marriage certificate will help me find who Mary Estella's first husband was so that I can get a marriage certificate for that marriage. As I said, I think his name was Lyman Woodworth and I think they were most likely married in 1868 because they had a son, James Henry Woodworth, born April 24, 1869. And Mary Estella would only have been 15 when James Henry was born. Possibly, Mary Estella Durkee and Lyman Woodworth were married in New London County CT also. I have found Mary Estella in the 1860 census but have not been able to find her or James Henry in the 1870 census. Mary Estella's birthday is 11/25 or 26/1853 Henry A. Osborne's birthday is Mar 1853 according to the 1900 census James Henry Woodworth is my husband's greatgrandfather and we are trying to find out who James Henry's father was. We are pretty sure that Mary Estella Durkee Woodworth Osborne was his mother. Thank you, Georgia Willis __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! 1. Book and Look ups
    2. Hi Gang, Well, I think I bit off more than I can chew! I have Ten pages so far for the index for this book. I know the list does not allow attachement, so can someone out there help me? How can I put this on line? I have about a hundred pages to go, and I am so bad, that I got into reading most of the bio's! My husband thinks I am sick! With the Memorial Day weekend passing, I have not done much but take care of my baby goats (born on Friday) and type names from this book. I know alot of people out there are waiting, I am not scaning this book, I am transcribing it page by page. (names) FYI, I have been a summer visitor of Mystic for over 20 years, my husband's family has a house on Fishers Island, and we run across the sound with the boat all summer. We moved here from Long Island almost 2 years ago. I bought a box of books at a garage sale, and here we are. 957 pages, is there anyone out there with a website that can add this to? Terre

    3. I am attempting to locate where exactly Edith Hamilton (August 12, 1867-May 31, 1963) Doris Fielding Reid (September 4, 1895 - Janurary 16, 1973) I received an email from the Indiana Historical Society and was told they located Edith Hamilton as being buried in Hadlyme, Conn. The information was located in Who was Who in America (Vol. IV, 1961-1968, Chicago, IL: Marquis - Who's Who, Inc., 1968). They how ever didn't state in which cemetery. I am hoping that perhaps Doris Fielding Reid is buried along side Edith. I was told by someone else that they thought where ever Edith is buried her sister Alice Hamilton is buried there as well. Any help in locating the burial locations would be truly appreciated. Thanks, Jeffery

    1. LADD, LEWIS, PARKER, HAWKINS, BURLESON
    2. Bill Ladd
    3. Hello- I am looking for any info on THOMAS GORDON LADD born in RI 1784, maybe Kent Co., died 1856 in Madison Co., NY. His wife was ABIGAIL born in RI c1783, died circa late 1860s in Madison Co., NY (looking for her maiden name). They had a son JOHN born in RI c 1816-1818, daughters MARY and LYDIA born RI circa 1820, and a daughter PHEBE born RI in 1826. I know according to deeds in Coventry and W Greenwich, RI and censuses in NY that the family seems to have moved from RI to upstate NY between 1828-1830. According to a deed in Coventry, RI in 1810 THOMAS' middle name was GORDON (relation to GORTONS?). In this deed he was GIVEN land from ELIZABETH LADD LEWIS & her husband SOLOMON LEWIS. From the sounds of the deed, he may have been a relative of Elizabeth, possibly a son. All three principles in the deed are listed as living in Voluntown, CT. In a previously found deed, Elizabeth bought the same tract of land from her father JOHN LADD in 1785, in which she was listed as a single woman. If Thomas is her son, he may have been illegitimate. I found other deeds where THOMAS had dealings with other Ladds of the JOHN/ELIZABETH LADD family members (as per the Warren book on the Ladd family); sometimes selling to one another and as witnesses at other times. Some of the other family names mentioned in the deeds as well as the Warren book are: LEWIS, PARKER, HAWKINS & BURLESON. It seems pretty obvious that my THOMAS LADD is well-connected to this wide-ranging Ladd family of RI, but I am unable to prove how. Sorry for the long note, but if anyone has any clues it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much... Bill Ladd Cortland, NY __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 2. Hi all, I have received a few request from the following book: Genealogical and Biographical Record of New London County Connecticut I have copied names for over 500 pages so far. When I am done, I can do look ups for you. I wish I had some families that were listed in it, but so far, none. Thanks for waiting, and I hope to have it done today. We raise dairy goats, and they are starting their kidding season, so my computer time might be limited in the coming days. Terre

    1. Mary Pysyk / Pysek in Norwich Early 1900's
    2. Hi everyone, I'm writing to see if anyone could help me out by looking up a death record in Norwich for me. I am unable to make the trip down during the week when the Clerk's office is open and I was hoping someone could help me out. I of course understand that everyone is very busy but I figured I'd take a shot. Her name was Marya (Mary) Pysyk / Pysek / etc. She arrived at Ellis Island on Dec. 15, 1902. Her age was listed as 40, and her place of residence in Poland was Mikolajowice. She states she is going to a Gregory Dyrdol in Norwich. He appears on the 1910 Census, but Mary does not. Another Pysyk (Victoria) arrived at Ellis Island in 1904. The manifet states that she is going to her mother Mary Pysyk in Norwich. Victoria is in the 1910 Census in Norwich but she is married to Andrew Kosienski. Given this information it seems likely to me that Mary died sometime between 1904 and 1910. I can't find any records for her besides her entry manifest and that of her daughter, and! I was hoping someone could help me out. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciatd. Thank you very much, ~Michael Messinger~

    1. Roath Family
    2. Hi Ann, There are three pages so far, page 197 <<ROATH: This name is one of the oldest in the town of Norwich, and those bearing it have ever held place among the respected citizens of the community. It is the purpose of this article to treat of the branch of the family to which belonged Co. Asa Roath and his family. of his sons the youjngest is living in Norwich, in the person of Louis P Roath. Stephen B Roath, late of Norwich, was formerly of Chicago, where he was well known in financial circles. Another son, Edwin Allyn Roath, died in 1909; his only son Frank A Roath, resides in Norwich. The lineage of the family follows: (1) Robert Roath, a native of England, was the first of the name to settle in Norwich. He came here a few years after the settlement of the town, in 1660, and received a grant of a large tract of land from the original town proprietors. That tract comprised several hundred acres, so that he was enabled to give each of hes sons a good-sized farm. Robert Roath was married in October 1668 to Sarah Saxton, born March 20, 1647, daughter of Richard Saxton of Windsor, who came to America in the Ship "Blessing". Sarah(Saxton) Roath died March 20, 1687, the mother of the following children: John, Sarah, Elizabeth, Hannah and Peter.>> So far there is no mention of a Lyman Roath, but I will keep an eye out for him! 1. Church family
    2. Hi Minnie, Just got to a Church family on page 165, no picture, but three pages: Church-That branch of the Church family so worthily represented in Montville by Capt. Erastus Church and Capt. James Leander Church is directly decended from Col. Benjamin Church, who helped drive the Indians from Mount Hope, in the town of Montville. Benjamin Church was a son of Richard Church, who married Elizabeth, daughter of Richard Warren, of Plymouth, Mass. His wife was Alice, daughter of Constant Southworth. The family coat of arms is as follows: Gules, a crosier, reserved, also ppr. CREST: A hand holding a sword erect between two branches of laurel entwined around the balde, all ppr. Over the crest the word "Virtue". I can scan the pages and send them to you by e-mail if you would like, but I can not type it all. The other names you mentioned, I have not come across. Let me know if you are interested. Terre

    2. Bill Waterhouse
    3. I don't know if anyone else in the area has ever noticed on Flanders Road in Mystic-(just around the corner from the Road Church on Pequot Trail)-a cemetery on the right just before the intersection of Flanders Rd & Pellegrino Rd. It is walled on the sides with a locked gate on the front. There appears to be a large mausoleum in the rear. I have passed by it many times during the years & oft wondered if it had a name. Lo & behold...as I passed by it last Fri. I noted some- one has posted a sign on the front wall reading: "Hilliard Cemetery." This, I believe, confirms it must be a private cemetery. I just thought I'd post this as 'a note of interest' on the chance someone might be researching the name Hilliard. I suspect the Stonington Historical Society must also be aware of it.
