    1. [CTNEWLON-L] Missing vital records
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XZ.2ADE/1406 Message Board Post: I am wondering if anyone else has encountered a similar lack of records on ancestors, as follows: My ancestor Obadiah STARK(S) (b. 1725 or 1730, son of William STARK and Experience LAMB) had birth records for his three oldest siblings recorded in the Groton vital records. Neither he, nor his other two older nor two younger siblings are recorded in any records I can find. I have searched the whole of Barbour. I have found marriage records for all the siblings but two – but NOT for Obadiah, who supposedly married about 1750 Susanna WALSWORTH. Land records show Obadiah buying land in 1751 in Norwich, saying he is of Colchester. Then in 1755 he sells this same land, saying he is of New London. In 1761 he receives a grant of land in Nova Scotia (with the original grants to New England Planters). He obviously did not stay in Nova Scotia, for in 1765 he sells his Nova Scotia land, and is back in Colchester buying land. I have been unable to find birth records for any of his children, either in Colchester or New London (or anywhere in Barbour). Any suggestions as to what might have happened with all these births not being registered, or where else I might look to find them? Any help would be much appreciated. Frances

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XZ.2ADE/1404 Message Board Post: Hi All, I'm looking for information on a man by the name of John KING. (Talk about looking for a needle in a haystack! LOL!). John KING was born somewhere between 1760-1770, possibly in CT. I don't know when he died but I assume he died in either New London or Waterford, CT. John KING married Naomi BEEBE in or around 1790 in New London county. Naomi BEEBE was b. 1/5/1767 and she was the d/o Jeduthan BEEBE and Lucretia DAYTON (I have tons of information on those lines if anyone's interested, just let me know!). John KING and Naomi BEEBE had 11 children. All born in Waterford, CT. Their son, Jonathan Rogers KING is my direct ancestor. He was b. 5/17/1808 Waterford, CT d. 12/22/1893 New London, CT. Jonathan married (1) Mary Ann NICHOLS/NICOLS 8/15/1830. They had 7 children. Jonathan married (2) Abby NICHOLS/NICOLS, Mary Ann's sister. They had six children, 3 of whom probably died in infancy. Jonathan's wives are most likely the daughters of Harvey NICOLS of Groton and Southport, CT and his wife Anne BAKER. One daughter of Jonathan and Mary Ann was Anna Francis KING she is b.10/7/1842 New London, CT d. aft. 1880. She married (1) George DARLING 10/8/1858 New London, CT. They had 5 children. George and Anna divorced in 1872. Anna married (2) Salmu/Samuel SCOVILLE abt. 1876 or so. I have lots of information on many of the lines listed above. I've never been able to find out where John KING came from or anything about his family. Any information on John KING who married Naomi BEEBE is very much appreciated! If these lines sound familiar to anyone please let me know. You can e-mail me at [email protected] Thanks! Lisa

    2. Stephen von Hitritz
    3. Hi Dotty, my good deed for the day: Steve in Quinton VA from the book, "Philip Welch of Ipswich, Massachusetts": page 96-98 78. Ebenezer4 Welch, son of Dr. Joseph3 (John2, Philip1) and Lydia (Rudd) Welch, b. July 24, 1738, in Norwich, Conn.; bap. July 30, 1738; m. Feb. 10, 1763, in Norwich, Conn., Deborah, dau. of Thomas and Abigail Tracy; b. Jan. 20, 1739/40, in Preston, Conn. Her sister Sarah married Ephraim Welch, brother of Ebenezer. Thomas Tracy's wife is called Mary in his will and in the distribution of his estate. He died February 23, 1755, and the property settlement was as follows: Pursuant to an order of the Court of Probate held at Norwich, May 4, 1756, the subscribers set out to Mary Tracy, widow and Relict of Thomas Tracy, late of Preston, deceased, one third part of the real estate--one lot in the Homestead farm. . . . And Pursuant to an order to distribute the remainder of sd estate among the children of sd deceased, order bearing date July 1, 1756, the distributors set out to Enoch Tracy, eldest son of sd deceased; to Elijah Tracy--to Deborah, daughter of sd deceased, a lot in the homestead farm, 25 acres, bounded south on land of Nathaniel Tracy, and land of Ebenezer and William Witter--to a stake which is the southeast corner of Enoch Tracy's land; also we have set out to sd Deborah, a lot on sd Plain, one acre and 130 rods, beginning at a meerstone by the highway--line running west on sd Enoch's land--to land of Deacon Tracy. Also a small lot in the Orchard on the west side of Enoch's lot on the Plain, one half an acre. To Sarah, daughter of sd deceased . . . ; distribution completed Aug. 23, 1756. February 4, 1767, and June 17, 1769, Ebenezer Welch and his wife, Deborah, sold the land described above, which she had inherited from her father Thomas Tracy--said land lying on the Plain called Tracy's Plain. This tract was in Preston, and is now usually called Preston Plains; the trolley line from Norwich to Westerly, Rhode Island, runs through the Plains. He is called Ebenezer Welch, Junr., of Norwich (so called to distinguish him from his Uncle Ebenezer) and they are described as living in "Richmont, County of Barkshire, Province of Massachusetts." May 29, 1766, Ebenezer Welch, with Joseph Welch and Elijah Tracy, all said to be of Richmond, Berkshire County, bought land in Richmont in that part formerly called Yokum Town--viz., Lot 48, in the Second Division, from Stephen Nash of Stockbridge, blacksmith, for the consideration of o42-10-0; "the above described lot is to be in equal shares and proportions to the said Joseph, Ebenezer and Elijah." The deed was dated May 29, 1766, acknowledged October 22, 1766, and recorded January 25, 1769. The same three persons purchased Lot 46 in Yokum Town from Isaac Brown of Richmont for o47-10-0. This deed was also dated, acknowledged and recorded on the dates mentioned above. June 6, 1768, Joseph Welch of Stockbridge, in the County of Berkshire and Province of the Massachusetts Bay, and Elijah Tracy of Richmont, both yeomen, for o28-0-0, sold to Ebenezer Welch their share in Lot 46, in the Second Division. This deed was acknowledged at Berkshire January 25, 1769, and recorded the same day. Ebenezer Welch and Joseph Welch, both of Richmont, yeomen, disposed of their share of Lot 48, to Elijah Tracy of Richmont, which deed was also acknowledged at Berkshire and recorded January 25, 1769. In the 1790 Federal Census, Ebenezer Welch was living in Richmond Town, Berkshire County, Massachusetts, with a family of four males over 16 years of age and six females. In 1791 and 1793, portions of land were deeded to him in Lenox, Massachusetts. On April 6, 1796, Ebenezer Welch sold his land in Richmond, with the buildings, and also his rights in the Second Division of lands in Lenox. This seems to be the last record of him in Berkshire County, Massachusetts; he next appears in Burlington, New York. Authorities: Norwich, Conn., V.R., p. 176.
