    1. [CTNEWLON-L] Errors in Online Family Trees
    2. Linda Emerson
    3. Many of us who have been at this research for sometime may have prematurely uploaded our ancestral information to either Family Tree Maker, Rootsweb or Ancestry.com. Since the internet is becoming the "mother of mistakes" in genealogy research, you may want to check to see if your old database is online. If your file is in need of refreshing or deletion, instructions for handling are the Number One item at: http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/questions.html#gedcom Hope this information helps someone... They also had 9 daughters, one of which was Hannah who m. Newby Bogue in 1827, Wayne Co., IN. The others daughters were Lydia who m. Nathan Ratliff in 1813, Wilkes Co, NC, Anna who m. My ancestor David m. Sarah Pearson (sister of Jonathan) in 1818, Wayne Co, IN Although I can find no evidence that John and Anna were Quakers, all of their children married Quakers. 1. Re: [CTNEWLON-L] Cole House in Colchester & Porter House in Hebron
    2. Debbie This posting is of great interest. I am not a direct descendant of Seth Dean but have an interest in a Seth DEAN b. 8 September 1723 in Lebanon and died 1786 in Colchester and who married Sarah_______. Is the Seth in this court case one in the same? Or is it his father, Seth married to Anne Skinner? I know you are looking for more info about John Dean. From an email I saved from a year or so ago the following: "Seth Dean, the second son, sold his land in Lebanon about 1730 and moved to Colchester with his wive, Ann, and their children probably about 1733. The earlier children are listed as baptized in Lebanon in the church records there. The birth of John is not found in the vital records or church records. I think he was born about 1733, from his date of death and age at death on his headstone in the old cemetery in South Canaan. It was probably at the time Seth and Ann were moving, and they never got around to it. With Ann's father being a Deacon in the Cburch, John must have been baptized, and a record of it may still exist somewhere. The children following John are listed as baptized in Colchester (Church records)." and "Joseph Dean, a son of Seth and Ann, was mentally defective and unable to take care of himself. When the family moved again in 1745, probably to Salisbury, Joseph was left behind in Colchester. Colchester paid for his care for about two years. In time this resulted in a case in court, Colchester claiming that Seth and Ann had been residing in Hebron, and that Hebron should have paid for his upkeep. There was considerable testamony during the trial regarding the activities of Seth and Ann from about 1739 to about 1745. The interesting thing is that Seth is said to have been away from town for a year at a time twice, and had probably gone up to Salisbury. One person said that Seth had a pair of show shoes he said he obtained in Salisbury. In 1753, Seth and Ann returned to Colchester. Seth was ill and died two months later. After his death, the Salisbury town tax rolls show that Seth owed property taxes there. Evidently his absences from Colchester were to purchase and possibly clear and build a dwelling on land is Salisbury." I wish I could help you with your questions regarding John, but the above is all I have. If anyone has more info on these court cases, I hope they will share it. Jan

    1. [CTNEWLON-L] Cole House in Colchester & Porter House in Hebron
    2. Colchester vs. Hebron - Hartford Court Case 1761, 1764. Our ancestors (the DEAN family) were involved in the above court case Below is an excerpt from the testimony of SAMUEL GILLET. At the conclusion of the excerpt I pose several questions. The testimony of SAMUEL GILLET of Lebanon in West Haven county of lawful age is as followeth – in the hard winter (1740/41) I lived at my father’s in Colchester near the house now called COLE HOUSE in Colchester, and SETH DEAN and his family lived in said winter at said Cole House and at the time Seth Dean began MR. TARBOX' MILL, said family lived at said Cole House and at the time the ??? began said Dean and family lived at said Cole House, for I went to conference meetings there upon the desire of MRS. DEAN a ??? to it, for her daughter EASTER (Esther) under great concern, and PETER SHUCKER lived in said winter with PHILIP GUY of Lebanon and took care of Guy’s goats, and so SETH DEAN stocked guns in said winter at said Cole House, and after said DEAN began said mill his family moved from the school house in Colchester to the PORTER HOUSE - IN HEBRON and said DEAN lived in Colchester four or five years at said Cole House before his family moved into Hebron, and while said DEAN lived at said Cole House, they had one child that died there and one child, JOHN (DEAN) born there. Hebron, Hartford (Superior) County February 16, 1764 1. Can anyone tell me anything about the COLE HOUSE in COLCHESTER or the PORTER HOUSE in HEBRON during this time period? SETH DID own land in Lebanon until about 1730. 2. JOHN DEAN b. abt 1733, ANNE DEAN b abt 1736 & died in 1738. We have been searching for sometime for the reference to John's birth - Does anyone know where we might find such a record? So far we've turned up only blanks! We've already tried the "standard " official places in Hebron and Colchester. Anyone have access to church records? This case is most interesting! Thanks for any answers you can provide! Debbie, CA

Do you do census lookups?? If you do, could you help me out? I recently found out my grandfather went to New London, CT after arriving in the US in 1906 (was 17yrs old). His name was Wladislaw (Walery/Walter) Liszewski. His ship manifest says he went to stay with his brother/brother-in-law, Ludwik Kilczewski or Hilczewski - at 25 Douglas St. - (assuming I'm deciphering the ship manifest info correctly). This info is totally new and no one in our family is aware of such a relative. So any info would be grateful!!! You may/may not find Wladislaw, he eventually moved to St.Louis, we don't know when though. Perhaps this "Ludwik" person stayed in CT since our family didn't know of him. > Thanks in advance for any info! > Mary > LISZEWSKI/CIEPLA/FLORCZYK > > ______________________________
