One more try... Hello, Does anyone know of a cemetery in Norwich or Montville called "Dolbear Cemetery"? It was referred to as such in a 1934 transcription in the Raymond Library at Montville, but some of the people there are also referred to elsewhere as buried in "Homestead Cemetery, Norwich". These folks would be Dolbears and Raymonds, buried from around 1780 to 1880. Any help locating the cemetery would be appreciated, thanks much. Raymond B. Howard
This is one of my brick walls: Alpheus Chapman, b. abt 1743 d. 02 Jan 1824 Montville. Just about all my info comes from Baker's History of Montville and doesn't go far enough and doesn't seem to quite fit. Now I am going to start working sideways - can anyone clue me in on the following people? James Babcock, Alpheus Babcock, Thomas Babcock, and Mary Babcock, Henry Minard, Sophia Minard, Emiline Minard, and Ann Bird were heirs at law of the estate of Alpheus Chapman. He was born about 1750 and was living in 1812. His wife's name was Martha _____, and was one of the witnesses to the last will of Samuel Holmes, August 4, 1774. He had sons Alpheus, who married Elizabeth Allen; Jesse married Hannah Holmes, daughter of Jabez, and his children were Jesse, Mary, married Nehemiah Fargo.
Greetings all, Looking for anything on any Dye families that were in Bozrah or the surrounding area from 1700 to no later than 1770. Any and all information greatly appreciated, thanks! John & Donna Bedard Bedard Photo & BedardPhoto.com New England Scenic Photography http://www.bedardphoto.com
The Bentley Family DNA Project is progressing with nine members. At present test results indicate that three members descend from William Bentley of Ampthill, England and Kings Towne, RI. Two members descend from an ancestor with descendants who settled in Letcher Co. KY and one member is of unknown ancestry. Three persons have submitted samples but the results have not been received. Several others are in the process of ordering sample kits. The results may be observed at http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/b/bentley/index.html The Project is open to all males with the Bentley surname. You may contact me at Bentleydna@cs.com for additional information. Larry Bentley
Only two guys named MAIN have submitted samples so far, and to their SURPRISE they had a perfect match of the basic 12 markers. Neither of us is sure of our ancestry before 1800 although I believe we both are from the Stonington CT MAIN families of the late 1600s and 1700s. What we really need is a man who knows his ancestry traces back to the first Ezekiel MAIN of Stonington Connecticut to submit a sample to compare with. The URL below tells a little more of the study and has an application at the bottom that when sent in will get you a simple test kit to submit your sample. The worst part is that it takes 4 to 6 weeks to get you information back. Considering what I've spent on genealogical travel and annual memberships, I think this is money well spent. Please consider participating in this study if your surname is one of the surname variants. http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=S43747&special=True&projecttype=S

New to list and I am looking for where my 3x great grandfather George LESTER c 1790s was born. Does anyone have a George in their tree and wonder where he went to? I just might have him! Looking forward to anyone who may have leads or suggestions for me. Thanks, Joan Austen
There are a lot of Seventh Day Baptists that migrated from New London Co CT and Washington Co RI to Alfred NY and points west. Here is an obit from the SDB rootsweb list: "The Sabbath Recorder", Vol 38, No 16, p 5, Apr. 20, 1882. In the town of Alfred, Allegany Co., N. Y., April 12, 1882, Mrs. Huldah Bliven Sisson, wife of George Sisson, aged 77 years. She was born in Rhode Island. and married there fifty six years ago, and soon after came to Alfred, where she has resided ever since. She obtained hope in Christ under the labors of Eld. John Green, and by him was baptized, and received into the First Alfred Church, where, as Christian, wife, mother, and friend, she has long been known and loved. Her death was sudden, but she was ready. She has left an aged husband, and three sons and three daughters, with hope that death to her is gain. C. M. L. " There are many obits documented for Babcocks, Kenyons, Greens, Harveys, and other families from the Westerly and Stonington areas that are mentioned on the SDB list. I think if anyone knew that their ancestors migrated west from the Westerly/Stonington area and they thought that they might be SDBs, the SDB list might be big help. Many families migrated from CT to New York and PA. The migration to western NY was North and then westward thru Pittsfield MA and then across the middle of NY State. Another route was down past NY City and then into PA. The following sites have a lot of genealogical information on families in NY and PA from around the late 1700's and into the 1800's. For instance, there is a note on Thomas Brown from Stonington which describes how a town in Bradford Co PA called Browntown was named after him. Check out the following sites if you are interested: ...Bradford County in PA - http://www.iarchives.com/lds_04/search.jsp?toc=cdcuuigxrps ...Pennsylvania Archives and other historical documents are also online and searchable at this site - http://www.iarchives.com/demos_clients/public.jsp and http://www.iarchives.com/anc_04/search.jsp I briefly checked out the Bradford site because I know that some Thompsons moved from Stonington to Bradford Co and neighboring Chemung Co NY. I didn't find my breakthrough but found the site pretty neat. Am in need of help in finding the parents of George W WILCOX b. 1833 Griswold, CT according to the 1865 state census, Wareham, Plymouth Co., MA where he is listed as age 32, b. Griswold. Unable to find a birth or baptism record, but did find on the WILCOX family genealogy forum where a George W WILCOX was b. in 1833 in Preston, CT son of Stephen WILCOX Jr and wife Amy B COOK. Would like very much to connect with someone familiar with the WILCOX families in Preston and or Griswold. Would appreciate any advice as to where I might find births for Griswold and or Preston for that time frame and or church records. Thank you Marge Perry
The Joshua Hempstead Diary (written daily in NL from 1711-1758) and indexing thousands of names has the following Jones: Amos, Elizabeth, Ehraim, Henry, Jabez, Mary, Sarah, Thoas and about a dozen just "jones" - when I have more time I'll check out the references for you -Meg Smeal
I checked the references for Thomas Joans, as Hempstead spelled it, and didn't get any clues, except there were and Old and a younger. Did not check just the surname though. Hello, Does anyone know of a cemetery in Norwich or Montville called "Dolbear Cemetery"? It was referred to as such in a 1934 Montville transcription, but some of the people there are also referred to as buried in "Homestead Cemetery, Norwich". These folks would be Dolbears and Raymonds, buried from around 1780 to 1880. Any help locating the cemetery would be appreciated, thanks much. Raymond B. Howard
