Take the plunge and go in. The volunteers are always nice and usually other researchers willing to offer advice too. Ordering microfilms only costs about $3.50 (ask at your center) so if you make a mistake it's not the end of the world. Maybe you should ask the list to help recommend a microfilm number based on something you have picked out to search for. The only problem I have is that I want to order more than I can look at in a month. I have found church records to be helpful to me but it really depends on what you are looking for.
