Hello, I am new to your list and hope someone would be able to help me. My grandfather was born at 52 View Street 1887 As I am sure you know the 1900 census is not indexed and it would help me a great deal if someone could tell me what district to look in for that address. He was Michael Serenson (story goes immigration changed the name from Sorensen) ( His name was listed as Zerenson on his birth cert. I guess a heavy Danish accent would do that). What would the churches in that area at that time be, both Catholic and possibly Luthern? His mother died in 1906. What was the funeral homes in that area and are they still in existance? I checked the 1900 census index from genealogy.com. No Michael Sorenson, Serenson or Zerenson listed for Connecticut. I checked the Connecticut surname index for the 1900 census, there's a Minnie Serenson. No Serensens. Under Sorensen, the following are first names: Carlston, Christen, Frank, Frederick, Henry, Lawrence, Neil, Niels, Peter, Rasmus. Under Sorenson: Andrew, Anne, Charles, Charles L., Dennis, Ham, Hans, Hiram, Ida, Jens, John P, John W, Louis, Louis, Peter, Peter, Peter, Peter J., Samuel, Soren. I couldn't find any Zerensons. If any of those first names ring a bell, I can send you the census data for that name. Of course, as everyone knows, these indexes aren't perfect. (Nor, in all probability was my look-up, I could easily have missed a name.) In my personal experience I've found people by browsing the actual pages when I couldn't find them in the indexes. So hope someone can help you figure out the district that address is in. Michal "Reason is our soul's left hand, Faith her right, by these we reach divinity." John Donne
