    1. [CTNEWHAV] Birth Certificates
    2. Recently I received birth documents which my mother had kept. I have the birth certificate from New haven, baptismal certificate with my name altered {won't get into that!}. I also have a document issued by the Hospital of St. Raphael which is a certificate of birth with the hospital's seal signed by the doctor and the hospital administrator. I cannot recall ever seeing one of these documents before. Would there be a file at the hospital with these documents or a book? What would be the reason to issue this document when my birth certificate is on file in the vital records office. My guess is that you needed to physically take the document to city hall to register the birth. It seems a little redundant. Which brings me to the original question: Was it the parent's responsibility to register the birth or the hospital? If there are hospital records, I would like to get a look at them. Is this a legal doument? I was born in 1949 in New haven, Connecticut.

    3. Hi, My wife gave birth in three (3) different hospitals. Each one gave us a certificate (?) of birth for the baby. But they aren't what the government considers a birth certificate for purposes of e.g. passport application. The govt jurisdiction where they were born will issue an official birth certificate (on request). Of course they got the data from the hospital; and by interviewinng the birth mother. My sample size is small (three), but it is uniform. Hope this helps.
