I am working on the family of Gilbert Twitchel and Jerusha Spencer whose sons were David, William and Jabez, and daughters were Elizabeth Twitchell Hull, Nancy Twitchell Bradley, Mary Twitchell Bronson, Jane Twitchell Luther, Finette Twitchell Burr, and Sarah Twitchell Bradley. Family records and the census say that this family lived in Oxford but I cannot find birth records in the Barbour collection nor the parents' marriage record. The oldest child was born circa 1803 and Jerusha died in the 1820's and Gilbert in the early 1840's in Ohio. The published history of the Twitchell Family of Connecticut has an odd date for the marriage and no documentation for any information given. Jerusha had a son Henry Spencer prior to her marriage to Gilbert. I am a descendent of Henry but the family has done a good job of covering its tracks. Is there anyone out there who connects to this family? Theresa Liewer Ankeny, Iowa
Hi Theresa, I am constructing an Extended Hull Family Database (EHFD) which includes Elizabeth Twitchell who married (1) 4 Jul 1824, Oxford, CT, Horace Franklin Hull and (2) 31 Jan 1847, Naugatock, CT, Lawrence Spencer Hull, Sr. They were both the sons of Dr. Nimrod Hull of Wallingford, CT and Waterbury, CT. Elizabeth was d/o Gilbert Twitchell and Jerusha Spencer. Jerusha died, 9 Jun 1822, in Oxford, CT. She was d/o Jehiel Spencer, Sr. and Anne Patience Tomlinson of Derby, CT. I don¹t know how Lawrence Spencer Hull got his middle name, but I¹m looking. Also Wooster Twitchell married Elizabeth Hull, 11 Oct 1764, at Derby, CT. He was s/o Joseph Twitchell and Elizabeth Tomlinson; and she was d/o Daniel Hull, Sr. and Elizabeth Lum. I know how the two Hull families were connected but I don¹t yet know how the two Twitchell families were connected. I¹m working on it. My EHFD has over 107,000 people in it and is growing at the average rate of 35 per day.
