    3. Hi All, I am getting very disenchanted with CT Vital Record offices. You may recall that I had inquired of the list as to how long New Haven takes to respond to a request. Well, I finally heard from them. One, they found no record of and changed the "copy fee" to "research fee". The other one I had requested was for a Marietta (Bassett) Clark who d. in New Haven in 1881. They sent me Mary Emma Clark, who d. 1894. The maiden name looks like Chipman. A few months earlier I went through this same thing with the State Death Index. I had requested a death record for William E. Patterson, b. New Haven, 1845-1850, d. 1896 or later. They sent me William Peters, d. Meriden, June 1898, age 65, making him b. 1833. I have been dealing with CT cities and small towns for a good many years and have never had a problem. They have either sent what I asked for or notified me that they didn't have any record. Is this a new policy for out of state people? The state already charges us triple what they charge residents. As we have all noticed with Social Security, NARA, online subscriptions, etc.; genealogy is big business! I would advise anyone contacting the Death Index to not send money in advance. They will send the information but not the certificate. If you get the correct information, you can then order the d.c. from the proper town. June
