Hi listers... May I make a suggestion to get around the New Haven Vital Records office? You can order the LDS films that have ALL the births, marriages and deaths that New Haven has ANY records of. You will find the names in those LDS films. I don't think the LDS films have the indexes of names, although they might have films of those as well. The only thing you will not find is films of the actual birth, marriage and death certificates. Those are in separate books which is where the registrar gets the actual copy. In the books, especially if it's a marriage, you will find what church/Minister/Priest performed the ceremony. Then you can write to the particular church for their records which may have more information than the Vital Records record has. I have been in the Vital Records archives and done my own research. I did notice that it was a very busy understaffed office but also found the people working there to be very nice and VERY busy with 'walk in' requests. Hope this helps a little.
