    2. Yes, June, New Haven does keep the fee even if they do not send the certificate requested. Something they don't tell you in advance. But the fee is $5.00 for a certificate, in-state or an out-of-state request. That is set by State Statute. I think every time someone gets burned they should write to our Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz at 30 Trinity Street, Hartford, CT 06106. Our state claims to be very conscience of our ethics these days. When you write for a certificate, that is exactly what you should get or the money should be returned. I would return the incorrect certificates and ask for the correct ones or a refund.

    3. Hi, Thanks for your response. I did send the one back to the Dept. of Health (the deaths list) with a note asking if they had looked for a William Patterson in New Haven. I gave them the widow's name, his occupation, parent's names, etc. They never responded. I didn't send the one back to New Haven because I figured I would get the same response. It just gets very frustrating. Makes you wonder why you give them all the information you can if they aren't even going to look at it. I think it's the State Library that charges out-of-state residents $15 and $5 for residents. The individual towns and cities are $5 for all. It would just be nice to actually get what you order.
