You can order the New Haven death indexes from the LDS church nearest you. I've got one on loan now. They go back to the 1600s. I found my ancestors who died in 1850 and 1882. Only problem is then you have to order another microfilm to get the actual date, etc. The catalog is at www.familysearch.org but they have a rather roundabout way of organizing them. You need to enter Connecticut, then New Haven, then vital records, etc. It costs about $3.25 per microfilm.
