I am seeking to trace the life and descendants of JOHN HENRY GANT DURANT, a New Haven jeweller from around 1870 until his death in 1929. This is his New York Times (21 Oct 1929) obituary: "New Haven, Conn, Oct 20 - John H G Durant, 80 years old, one of the oldest jewelers in Connecticut and nationally known as a gem expert, died today of a general breakdown. He was born in England and for sixty years had managed a large business in this city. He leaves his wife and five daughters." Grateful for any information about John or his descendants. He had five daughters: (1) Nellie M Durant (born 1876 - died 1968 Hamden), never married (2) Addie E Durant (born c 1879) (3) Emma Durant (born 1881 - died 1968 Florida), married Eugene Scott (4) Caroline Durant (born c 1882) (5) Katherine Durant (born 1892 - died 1993, Hamden) m John Forsyth Sheppard. Daughters: - Janet S Sheppard, married a Mr Green - Norma M Sheppard John was married twice, both times in England. (1) Mary Jane Stenlake, 1873 (2) Mary jane Shaw, 1891 John Henry Gant Durant was the brother of my ggg grandmother, but the two were separated in the 1850s when my ancestor was sent to Australia with her uncle.
