Lafayette St. is a VERY short street nowadays (about a block and a half long). It may have been longer in the past, before the Oak Street Connector (a highway connecting I-95 and I-91 to the downtown area) was built in the 1960's/1970's(?). I am around Lafayette St. quite often, but I don't know if I was ever actually on it. I don't recall seeing a church in the area, but if you want, I can drive by it on Monday on my way to or from work (I work downtown). Also, did you try the Colonial New Haven Historical Society? Another possibility would be New Haven City directories for that time period (available at the State Library or LDS Fam. History Centers). Bill Coley
Hi Bill I have yet to figure this one out - havent contacted any historical societies yet but if you are in the area would love to see if you find anything! -Grace > In a message dated 11/21/01 2:22:15 PM Eastern Standard Time, > [email protected] writes: > > > I am stumped by this one: > > > > My Edwin Minor Byington and Harriett I. Bill, I have a different question, but as you are there in New Haven, I'm hoping you'll know the answer... Do you know Maley's (Malley's) Department store? I know it no longer exists, but do you remember who owned/started it? I'm researching Maleys in New Haven, and wonder if they could be connected.
