    1. RE: [CTNEWHAV] old medical diagnosis
    2. Michal
    3. My guess, based on simple latin terminology, is that the death was caused by childbirth. I imagine the term utero gestation was a fancy one for pregnancy, utro should be utero (from uterus), and gestation is basically just a fancy term for growth in the womb. The gestation period being how long a mammal remains in it's mother's womb. I've never seen utero gestation used in old records except for a child that died, either stillborn at right after birth. But I suppose there's no reason it might not be used for women that died right after childbirth too. Most Dr.s (then and now, my apologies to any around) never seem to use a nickel word if they have a silver dollar sized one available. 3. Judy, I hope that whoever replys with a real answer will post it to the list. I would like to know that answer, too, in case I ever come across it. My guess would be that they gave that name to the condition when a woman bled out after birth. What is utro gestation? I found my great great grandmother died of this complication at age 30. 3. Hi, Carissa. John Thomas was an original proprietor of the New Haven colony; was made Freeman 1669. John Thomas's will is dated 4 Jan. 1670 and mentions wife Tabitha, daughters Elizabeth and Tabitha, daughter Sarah Wilmot's children (unamed), sons Daniel, John, Samuel and Joseph. It was witnessed by William Peck and Roger Alling. The inventory was taken 19 Jan 1672 by Roger Alling and John Cooper and totaled 176 pounds, 6s, 6d. (Early New Haven Probate Records," NEHGS "Register," Vol 81, pg. 132) I am descended from son Daniel, and if I can help you some more, let me know. I have worked on these folks... 3. Hi, "cousin" Kevin. Your Aaron Smith was first cousin of my Elihu, your Peter and my Nathan were brothers. I have searched "Genealogy Library" and "Family and Local Histories" at Genealogy.com, and the NEHGS site In "Families of Ancient New Haven," I find Olive (wid. Aaron Smith) married as the second wife to John Alsop Talmadge. I found Samuel Lewis, too, and wife Hannah Rew, dau. of Hezekiah, with dau. Olive, b. Dec. 10, 1749, (but no marriage) in "The town and city of Waterbury, Connecticut : from the aboriginal period to the year eighteen hundred and ninety-five," New Haven: Price & Lee, 1896, 2413 pgs. At NEHGS, I found a Hezekiah RUE and daughter Hannah in MILFORD, with Hannah b. 7 August 1723. Is it possible that your Olive married in Milford at "granny's house?" That happened sometimes when grandparents were alive but unable to travel... And that's it. At least you now know where the information "isn't." My g-grandfather Alfred Beriault/ Berio was born in Canada and relocated to New Haven where he married and had a family. After his wife died (Margaret McLauglin) he remained in New Haven working as a blacksmith until about 1900. We do not know what eventually happened to him. We do know that he did not return to the Coteau area west of Montreal from which he came. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Owen

    3. I am hoping someone might be able to help me attach Olive Lewis, who married Aaron Smith, to some parents. Aaron was said to be "of Bethany". They married about 1772. Aaron was born 3 Oct. 1745, son of Peter Smith. I found an Olive Lewis born 10 Dec. 1749 in Waterbury, which seems to be quite close to Bethany. She was the d/o Samuel Lewis and Hannah Rew (or Row). Aaron was a doctor, and died in 1778. Whether this was war related, I have never been able to find out. The couple had 3 children, Eli, Olive, and Hannah, who married Eliphalet Hotchkiss and are my ancestors. Any help appreciated. Mahalo and take care, Kevin
