    3. Hi Could you look up the name Senger or Singer in the yearbook? My father and his siblings were born in Meriden and they could be in High School at this time. Thank You Bernie CTNewHavenCounty@aol.com wrote: Sending you all holiday greetings on a snowy afternoon in Connecticut! Since December is traditionally a month of giving, I thought it would be a nice idea for those of us that have any type of documents/sources which might be of genealogical value to others volunteer to do look-ups for each other. If you do, and if you wish to volunteer, please post your offer to the list. I have a 1924 Meriden High School yearbook which I will gladly look people up in. I picked it up at a yard sale awhile ago. It's really interesting to read the blurbs written about each classmate, for instance: Jennie Panas: "Jennie had charge of the library many afternoons, but she also had many other troubles". Marjorie Bradford: "Marjorie got plenty attention from the superior male sex and we can't say we blame anyone for paying attention to her". Gertrude Penfield: "Gert is another one of our plump classmates". Eileen Kennedy: "Eileen's aim has to been to run as many people in the school as possible. She tried every method but, we fear, didn't employ tact!" Bernard Kochanowski: "Bernie is the little fellow who thinks he is so important". I also have a picture of a young girl that is labeled "Antoinette Welch" on the back, which I bought (For a dollar) at a yard sale in Meriden...probably early 1900s. If anyone has Antoinette in their family tree, let me know, and I'll send the picture. Hope you all have a safe & wonderful holiday! 1. [CTNEWHAV] Class books
    2. Robin: That is a good idea. Class books really show an innocence and really reflect the character and ethnicity of the area. I also collect them at yard sales and will do look ups. I have: New Britain High School 1917 and 1918 {Quite a difference in size and quality of books due to war}. They were my aunt's books and in them she kept correspondence she had with classmates after graduation. Senior class book 1926 Commercial High School, New haven. The diversity of names is incredible: Kasulis, Ingauggito, Caplan, Kelly. The students came from all over the region: East Haven, hamden, Bethany. There are baby pictures in the back. The book belonged to Anna Del Monico and her baby picture is in there. I have a few more from out of state: 1936 parapet from Mt. St. Vincent-on-the Hudson, New York City, 1919 Chiaroscuro from Bessie Tift College Forsyth Georgia. Judy PS--I know there are on line sites which specialize in these books but I am not interested in selling them only sharing.

    3. A big thank you to both Tina and Candy. Actually Baker was a married name, and the name I am researching is TRAVIS. My grandparents were Frank David TRAVIS (1907-1991) and Dorotha Ellen HALLENBECK (1903-1981). His father was Arthur Garfield TRAVIS (1879-1958), a colorful local character and Chief of West Haven's Engine Co. No.1. My TRAVIS and HALLENBECK research is pretty complete back for a number of generations on both sides, but my Mom has thought often about the baby sister who died so young. I was just hoping to find more. In the meantime, I'm happy to share with anyone researching these families. Wendy

    2. Would be interesting to see if your family is related to mine (my moms maiden name is Baker and we have several Baker family members buried at Beaverdale). I don't know for sure but if your local you should call city hall in New Haven and ask them your questions. You should speak to the caretaker of the cemetary and see if "Baby Baker" is listed as burial name in their books (they keep records)- Also, ask the cemetary if a funeral home handled any arrangements for the family (ie; the cemetary, wake etc) It's was very hush hush back then so you may have to pry a bit, my own grandmother lost a set of twins (would have been 4th set) and never spoke of them- names, burial place, date of death, etc) so I am at a dead end myself in that regard. Good Luck. Tina

    1. [CTNEWHAV] Birth/Death Name required in New Haven County?
    2. Wendy Baker
    3. My grandparents gave birth to a child at home May 10, 1930 in West Haven, and she died two days later at home. She is said to be buried in Beaverdale Cemetery in New Haven, although there is no stone. My grandparents rarely spoke of this baby, and the only information my mother had was that she was "buried unnamed." My questions are these... as recent as 1930, wouldn't a death certificate be required for burial in New Haven County, and further, wouldn't a name be required for the death certificate? As long as I have the exact names of my grandparents and dates of birth and death, shouldn't both Vital Records and the cemetery be able to find this baby's information? Thanks, Wendy Baker

I don't think it's necessary for somebody to be a Navy person to receive treatment at the NNMC Bethesda; I just thought that if he was, it would not be unlikely that he died there.
