Robin I think Henry's father's name was William. The only information I have is that he committed suicide "hanged himself." William Barth. April 30, 1815 "adminstrative change, by Nathaniel Taylor, pastor New Haven Congregational Church, withdrawn from church." Did this mean William quit the church? 1820 Census he had 2 sons 1830 Census New Haven William Barth 1 boy under 5 1 boy 5-10 2 boys 10-15 1 man 40-50 2 women 30-40 William's son Henry died from a compound fracture of the leg secondary to cancer. He is buried New haven Cem # 6 (I do no know which one) page 1381. I got this at the State Library. The last record I have of Charles the son is 1900 census on NY? Do you have any of Henry's siblings? I think one might be a Charles? Kathi
Allen I have Francelia Johnson's book. If you want me to look anything up, let me know. Janice Allen, Have you seen Francelia Johnson's book about families in Kent? She might have some information to fill in some of your blanks. If you haven't, I can send you the contact information. When I looked for my family in the cemeteries in Kent, she could tell me exactly where to search and I found them just as she described - in 3 different cemeteries!
John Webster, born in CT in 1784. Married Charry surname unknown, also born in CT. They moved to Delaware Co., NY before 1805. I think John's father was Jonathan, born 1740-50, a Yeoman, from Lebanon CT. His wife was possibly Elizabeth. He purchased land in Delaware Co. NY in 1791. Any clue would be appreciated. Looking for info on Joseph William ROBERTS and his descendents. I believe he was a carpenter in the New Haven area. He married Clara Leas and had 4 children. There is some rumor that he might have been married before, but at this time that is unproven. His son George Pfaff Roberts is my grandfather, who left the family with no contact since the 1940's. I have had limited contact with distant cousins but am still seeking any info to fill in the gaps and questions. (Like why he left the family never to return) Also any info on the John and Barbara (FUTEJ / FUTEY) DANIELS and thier descendents. I have reason to believe that at least one of thier children may still be alive and living in the New Haven area. Emerson DANIELS, who seems to be unwilling to talk about his family. My grandmother is Helen DANIELS who is his sister. Both John and Barbara were from Slovackia approx 1899/1900 time.
I believe my great-great-great-great-grandfather to be Henry BARTH, born abt 1790, d. 1/19/1831; married Laura Bradley or Bishop (anyone know which?) in September 1814 at the First Congregational Church in New Haven. Would like to know Henry and Laura's ancestry and where they are buried. Their son Henry, born February 20, 1827, died Aug 1893 in New Haven, married Hannah Fitzgerald from Ireland (would like info on her parents!), and also their burial place. Their son Charles H. Barth was born March 1854 in New York. Cannot find where or when he died. Was separated from his wife Josephine Maher, daughter of Timothy Maher and Ann Lawlor(?). Any information on these Barths would be appreciated! Thanks! Robin List Administrator CTNEWHAV (New Haven County, Connecticut) KRUPA surname

My brick wall is William Seeley born abt 1780. He died 8 Sept 1854 in Waterbury CT. He married Patty/Pattie (or maybe Martha as Patty was a nickname for Martha) who was born abt 1777. She died 1869 in Waterbury CT. I cannot find proof that they were the parents of Charles Seeley (b. 21 July 1821 in Waterbury; d. 25 Nov 1890 in Meriden) who m. 24 Dec 1843 Amy Prichard in Waterbury. I need the maiden name of Martha/Patty who was the wife of William and the proof that this William is the father of Charles. My thanks to anyone who can help. Jean Seeley Richards
Hi Listers I have found my great aunt returning to the US August 11, 1920 after her sisters marriage in Glasgow. On the ships manifest under "If native of US..." a reference is given - W180713 - can anyone tell me what this is about and whether I can get any info from this. My grandmother followed in September with her new husband (presumably a honeymoon and return visit) TIA Mike ------------------------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT BACK AGAINST SPAM! Here is my 15 year brick wall. I do not know where my 5th GrGrandfather was born or when or how he arrived in Branford. George DEAR, b. Abt. 1732 (unk); d. October 11, 1776 on Lake Champlain while serving in Benedict Arnold's Navy. Married Abigail Wheadon, February 04, 1755, Branford, New Haven, Connecticut; b. January 26, 1726/27; d. October 05, 1792. They had six children George Jr., John, Hannah, Sarah, Jonathan and David. George and Abigail owned land in Branford to wit: July 4, 1765 "bounded Southerly by the Highway, Westerly by Nathaniel Whedons land and to extend as far Northerly as to Ye ditch being about twenty rods, and as far Easterly towards Timothy Plants Home lot as to leave precisely 22 1/2 foots of land, which I reserve, and said Dear to maintain Ye whole of Ye fence on Ye East line" March 4, 1768 "one certain piece of land lying in said Branford and lying near a place called Canoe Brook, containing about half an acre, be it more or less; joining South upon the country road so far as to take half my well, then running North the same length with George Dears own land, joining West and North upon my own land and East upon said George Dears land, at each end an equal width." Around 1773 the family sold their land and moved to Goshen, Conn. where some of the children spent the rest of their lives and some migrated West. > How about posting your most elusive Connecticut ancestor to the list? John Moran b abt 1853 Ireland, d 6/9/1918 New Haven, m Katherine Clyne,12/29/1884 New Haven. He was a blacksmith. I think his mother was Catherine b 1818. But am willing to be proved wrong. His sons are James b 5/18/1893, John F. b 10/1885, Joseph J. b 12/21/1897 died 1981, Edward J. b abt 1888 died single 1954. Daughters are Mary b 10/10/1890 d 1923, C Agnes b 12/27/1897 (twin) d 1975. I would appreciate any info on ancestor or descendant. Because some of the children were sent to orphanages, when John became ill, the uncle and aunt I did know would not talk about the family. I would like to believe the illusive relatives might have info on their ancestors. All these births took place in New Haven. All death dates recorded, took place in one of the Haven's. Thanks to all for reading. cuzmuz
My great-grandfather was Arthur Richard SELBY, of Ansonia, Conn. These are death notices following his death. Christina Auch theauchs@adelphia.net http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~familiesacrosstime/ ARTHUR R SELBY CLAIMED BY DEATH AT HIS HOME HERE [printed Friday, June 17, 1949] Arthur R. Selby, husband of Mrs. Edith Baker Selby, died this morning at his home, 31 Johnson Street, after a short illness. Mr. Selby was born in Ansonia, September 6, 1881, son of the late Thomas and Annie Bowen Selby. Mr. Selby, who spent most of his life in Ansonia, had been employed in the American Brass company for many years, retiring in November of 1948. He was a member of Immanuel Episcopal church, George Washington lodge, A.F. and A.M.; Mount Vernon chapter, R.A.M.; union council and New Haven Commandery, and was a 32nd degree Mason. Mr. Selby was very well known and his sudden death brings sadness to a wide circle of friends and acquaintances who held him in high esteem. Surviving, besides his wife, are four sisters: Miss Annie Selby and Miss Fannie Selby both of Ansonia, and Mrs. Ralph Andrews and Mrs. Ellsworth Matthias, both of New Haven; a brother, Thomas E. Selby of Los Angeles, Calif., and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Leslie O. Jensen funeral home, 52 State Street. Burial will be in Pine Grove cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home tomorrow from 7 to 9 p.m. FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD SUNDAY FOR ARTHUR SELBY [printed Monday, June 20, 1949] Funeral services for Arthur R. Selby on 31 Johnson Street, who died Friday, were held Sunday afternoon at the funeral home of Leslie O. Jensen, 52 State Street. Rev. G. Ross Morrell, rector of Christ Episcopal church, officiated. The services were largely attended by relatives and friends and the numerous floral tributes manifested the high esteem in which Mr. Selby had been held. Numbers called at the funeral home Saturday night to pay their tribute of respect. Burial was in Pine Grove cemetery where Rev. Mr. Morrell read the committal. Pallbearers were Sidney Clayton, Ralph Fillingham, Ralph Andrews, Richard Andrews, Ellsworth Matthias and Frederick Bruenin.
I have made this request (unsuccessfully) in the past, and hope that someone may have joined the list who could handle this research project for me. I live in Chicago, and at this time it would be impossible for me to visit Oxford and do this work myself. The information I am seeking hopefully still exists at the Oxford UCC - Congregational Church, and someone on this list may even be a member of this church (or know someone who is). At any rate, I will pay research fees, copies, postage, etc., to anyone who could visit the Oxford Church and gain access to their archives -- both church and cemetery. I realize that this work may have to be postponed until spring when the weather is better, but I would like to locate someone now who could do the work when weather permits. I am seeking information on my 4great-grandfather, James Leach, who records I have state was buried in the "Congregational Cemetery, Oxford Center." I do not have an exact date of death for James Leach, but he certainly died between 1825 and 1836 -- more likely in 1825-26 based on the Revolutionary War pension monies paid to him. James Leach lived in the Oxford/Derby area for most of his life. I have worked diligently on my Leach ancestry for the past 14 years, and have compiled a large body of information on James Leach and his descendants, but I lack proof of his death date, and any baptismal records for his children. I have a complete record of his Revolutionary War service and my goal these many years has been to join the DAR based on his service. No one has ever done so -- I would be the first descendant to recognize his accomplishments. I wrote directly to the church with a similar request a few years ago, but received no reply to my letter. Any leads or suggestions would be gratefully appreciated. Joyce Steffel Chicago, IL
