    1. [CTNEWHAV] LYNN Family -- Naugatuck (1890 & Later)
    2. Joann Jameson
    3. Brothers Joseph and Austin LYNN, with their wives and children, moved to Naugatuck, CT from Mahanoy City, Schuylkill, PA -- as did their sister Rebecca and her husband, Monroe LEE. I believe that Austin LYNN and the LEE family were already in Naugatuck by 1890, and that the Joseph LYNN family and Austin LYNN's wife and children, followed soon after. John LYNN (nee KEMP), the father of Joseph, Austin & Rebecca, died in PA, 31 Mar 1891, and their widowed mother, Catharine "Katie" (BURNHAM or BURNS) LYNN also made the move to CT, making her home with the youngest of her eight living children, Rebecca LYNN LEE. I have done extensive research on my LYNN family for 15 + years, and would like to make contact with descendants of the branches of the family that lived in Naugatuck. I have much data to share about branches of the family in other parts of the US and in England. Following is what I know about Joseph's & Austin's families (information about Rebecca LEE's family will follow in my next post) : 1. Joseph LYNN, b Jan 1844, Schuylkill Co, PA (probably Port Carbon), mar ca 1877 + Alice, b Apr 1851, England 2. Rebecca LYNN, b May 1878, Mahanoy City, Schuylkill, PA 2 Lilly D. LYNN, b Apr 1882, Mahanoy City, Schuylkill, PA Alice was previously married to a Mr. HUGHES (born Wales), and the children from her first marriage were: John HUGHES, b ca 1866; Mary A. HUGHES, b ca 1868; Margaret "Maggie" HUGHES, b ca 1872; Thomas H. HUGHES, b Feb 1874; all born PA. In 1870 PA, Joseph's occupation was "Engineer." On the 1880 and 1890 PA censuses he was a "Laborer." On the 1900 census for Naugatuck, the family was living on Highland Ave., and his occupation was "Laboror on Road." Step-son Thomas HUGHES was also in the household, and was a "Laborer, Rubber Mill." Also on the 1900 census was the information that Alice had emigrated to the US in 1857, at the age of 3 -- and that she had given birth to 10 children, with 6 still living in 1900. 1. Austin LYNN, b May 1864, Schuylkill Co, PA, mar ca 1884 + Mary, b Nov 1868, PA 2. Ralph LYNN, b Dec 1885, Schuylkill Co, PA 2 Violet LYNN, b Apr 1891, Schuylkill Co, PA 2 George LYNN, b Jan or Jun 1894, CT On the 1900 census, the Austin LYNN family is living at 99 Beebe St, Naugatuck, and Austin's occupation is "Carpenter." His wife Mary had given birth to 3 children at the time of the 1900 census, and all 3 were living. Mary's father was born in Wales and her mother born in England, which makes me wonder if Austin married Mary A. HUGHES, b ca 1868, who was the step-daughter of his older brother, Joseph. John LYNN, the father of the three siblings who resided in Naugatuck, is the son of George LYNN (nee KEMP) and his wife, Ann MARTIN (my gr-gr-gr-grandparents), who emigrated to the US from Redmile, Leicestershire in 1832 and changed their surname from KEMP to LYNN. I have been trying to locate descendants of the 9 children of this couple who survived to adulthood, and have brought together a group of researchers from the various branches. We have been sharing information and working together, along with two of our English KEMP cousins, and would love to hear from our cousins in the Joseph, Austin and Rebecca LYNN lines. 3. Try this book if you can find it. It's a tiny book, and there is a copy of it in Springfield, Massachusetts, in the library at the Connecticut Valley Historical Museum at the Quadrangle. The call number is 929.2 P932p. The Interlibrary Loan service of your local pubic library might be able to arrange for you to receive faxed photocopies of some pages of this book if they pertain to your Jonathan. Pritchard, Jacob L., M.D., A Compilation of Some of the Descendants of Roger Prichard c1600–1671, 1953. For a summary of some of the early material in this book, click on "Roger Prichard" on the Walter Gilbert genealogy site, a very fine web site that is beautifully organized. Here is a link to the main page of that site: http://www.otal.umd.edu/~walt/gen/htmfile/frames.htm Good luck! 1. [CTNEWHAV] Thompson + Byington Family of New Haven county CT
    2. Grace Coffman
    3. I found in the 1850 census in East Haven CT the following Thompson family: Albert age 39, wife Jane (39) Henry (18) and Abigal Byington (64). Also, down the street are: Aaron Thompson (59) wife Sally (59) George (30) Daniel (25) Mervin (?) 21 and Maria Keley(surname) (12) Also, one house down: William Thompson (26) Olive (35) Hiram H. (21) Lois (8) and Thomas O. Brien (32). Now, here is what I wonder. I have an Abigail Byington who married UNKNOWN who I believe to be the parents of Darlington Byington, who married Martha. Does anyone know if perhaps Abigail's surname is Thompson, which is why she is living with the Thompson's in 1850? In 1860 I have Abigail living with Darlington (her son I believe) - I tend to think these two Abigails are the same. Any help is surely appreciated! -Grace [email protected]

    1. [CTNEWHAV] Revolutionary War info.
    2. Joanne Garland
    3. I am in the final stages of a DAR application and need to document what my ancestor actually DID during the Revolution, not just what he SAID he did. He served from Connecticut. I have his pension application, the list of men in his company, and the individual cards from the National Archives file on him that say he was a carpenter. From his pension application I know what he SAID he did. What I need to do is document the particulars if that is possible. Here in Massachusetts we have the "Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors of the Revolutionary War" series that lists each man and includes a few lines such as, "Enlisted in _______ company and marched to _____________ for a raid, and later performed garrison duty at __________ and was discharged on ____________." That sort of thing. Does Connecticut have the equivalent, and what is it called? My Abel Tuttle enlisted in January of 1778 as a private, a foot soldier, in Capt. Jarius Wilcox's Company, Col. Baldwin's division. That much I can document. He SAID that he "served faithfully two years and nine months and was discharged on account of sickness at West Point, in writing under the hand of General Greene, with honour." That's the part I need to document. Is there a particular book of official records that would verify that quoted information? I'm nearing a deadline here and would very much like to find it to complete the file. Joanne Garland

    2. Seeking anyone that might know of the Joseph W. ROBERTS (married to Clara LEAS) family or thier decendents. Joseph was born near Waterbury, New Haven CT. But relocated his family to the Milford, New Haven CT area in the early 1900s. Thier children were Joseph, Mark, Clara, George and Florance. (Children born in the Waterbury area late 1800 early 1900) George ROBERTS is my grandfather and he married Helen DANIELS also of Milford. The DANIELS had 13 children; John (Jr?), Mary, Anna, Julia, Joseph, Helen, Stephen, Albert, Francis, Emerson, Bertha (Barbara), David, and George. Stories have it that Mary (Maria?) (DANIELS) married to Ronald LARKINS, might have passed away when her children were young. Barbara (DANIELS) married John JACKSON. I am seeking conntact with as many of the above as I can find..... also seeking photos or stories that friends might have of any of the above or thier children. George and Helen ROBERTS left the Milford area in the 1930s, both are now deceased and we know very little of the family connections in the Milford/ Waterbury area. Thanks for helping.

Benjamin Woolhouse RAMSDEN went to the USA (from Sheffield, England originally) with his wife, Norah and son, Omar sometime around 1879. Around 1882 a second son, Wallace, was born to Benjamin and Norah in Meriden. The family moved back to Sheffield around 1884 and a third son, Horace, was born. In 1897 Benjamin went back to the USA and appears in the 1900 census in Meriden. His family remained in the UK. The census entry indicates that he was a widower but his wife actually died in 1929! I can find no trace of Benjamin in the UK after 1900 so assume he must have died in the USA. Can anyone suggest ways to trace Benjamin and family during their first stay and also what happened to Benjamin after 1900? Thanks for any help Tigger, Warrington, England

    2. I'm looking for any information on the above surnames from the New Haven County area. My grandfather, Wilford Joseph Verneau, was reportedly born in Meriden on July 15, 1885. I can find no birth records for him. His death certificate states that he was born in Meriden on that day. He died on December 5, 1940. This certificate also states that his parents were Wilford N. Verneau and Philomena LaPointe. The family has reason to believe that Wilford J. may have changed the family name from Veronneau to Verneau. Family legend says that Wilford J. had two brothers, Adelard and Jean, and possibly a sister, Catherine. This is my brick wall. Buzz Verneau Harlem, GA

I have Richard's death date as 1698 per "Families of Ancient New Haven" by Donald Lines Jacobus. Many thanks for your information, esp. the fact that they were from Thurleigh - I didn't have that.
