Hi all, I've been working on a new site called "Past Faces" located at http://www.geocities.com/pastfaces/ What I'm trying to do is compile all of the old photos and scans of people that I have from old newspapers and magazines from the late 1800's and early 1910's. I also have some old school yearbooks that I've been scanning the faculty pictures from. This database of photos will be constantly growing. If anyone has b&w scans that they would like to add, just email them and I'll add them as I can. I still have a bunch more. The idea is to perhaps help someone put a "face" to someone in their data. Hope this project helps someone's research. In Forestville Cemetry, Bristol Ct: Two baffling women. 1. Elizabeth N. Harlow b 1840 Germany died 1932 CT 2. Elizabeth S. Staub b 1853 CT died 1935 CT. Both connected to (their father?) George Marquis Hahn b 1818 GErmany d 1887 CT. Are they both daughters? One Eliabeth wed three times (#2) to Hahn, Bollerer & STaub. I have tried deperately to locate certificates of birth, marriage, and/or death on these two Elizabeths. The Hahn, Harlow families were nearly always in Bristol/Forestville/Plainville city directories. Another connection would be Edgar Harlow (died 1956) or his wife, Edith Bollerer Harlow (died 1963), if you are aware of any of their descendants in the Plainville area. They lived at 7l W. Main in Plainville. IS THERE A DETECTIVE IN THE AUDIENCE that would like to try to find certificates of birth - probably in New Haven County? Or search for certificates of death for these two women probably in Hartford County? Hello List, I am researching Edward Evarts (b. March 3, 1752 in Guilford, New Haven, CT). He was the son of Caleb Evarts (b. May 27, 1707) and Elizabeth Stocker. Some members of Caleb Evarts' family left Connecticut sometime in the 1760s and settled in Vermont. Edward Evarts married Selphina Culver probably in Vermont during 1781. Their daughter Selphina Evarts was born in Vermont in 1799. Edward Evarts probably died in Greene, Chenango County, NY during the late 1840s. I have not been able to find any proof of his date or place of death. Edward served in the American Revolution with the Vermont Militia. After the American Revolution, he lived in the following places : Sunderland, Bennington, VT; Pollet, Rutland, VT; Granville, Washington, NY Hillsdale, Columbia, NY Greene, Chenango, NY Any information shared on Edward Evarts or his family will be appreciated. I am trying to prove this line with documentation. I will be glad to share the information that I have with anyone interested. Thank you. Nick Mizaur [email protected]
IN New Haven 1854. George Marquis Hahn wed Dorothea A. Reecer (or Riger/Ruger) at the Chapel Street Congregational Church. I have this certificate. In 1860 New Haven Census, George is listed. In 1860 (same year) Bristol CT Census is: Hahn, George 43 M W B Saxony lease maker Dorothea 32 F W b Saxony Elizabeth 8 F W B CT Margaret 6 F W B CT and Henry 1 M W B CT. My question: Regarding (mainly) Elizabeth. Even Elizabeth's tombstone indicates dob as 1853 - George and Dorothea did not wed until 1854 ? ? ? ? ? I have tried unsuccessfully to obtain the certificates of birth of Elizabeth and Margaret (and even Henry's would be great) which likely would be in New Haven County...can someone out there play detective for me? I will be happy to pay all copies/postage and even buy your lunch. Gail Hahn Hutchcraft [email protected]
Hello List, Does anyone have any descendant information for Rachel Perkins (b. 26 Sep 1742) of New Haven County , CT? I have information that shows that she married Lemuel Potter (b. 8 Jul 1747) on 19 Apr. 1770 in New Haven County, CT. This is all I have been able to find at this point. I am trying to learn more about their children. In particular, I am looking for proof that Rachel and Lemuel had a son named Thomas Potter (b. abt. 1777). Any information shared will be appreciated. I will also be glad to share the information that I have with anyone interested. Thank you. Nick Mizaur [email protected]
Hello List, I am researching a Potter family who lived in Greene, Chenango Co., NY between 1800 and 1850s. This family originally comes from New Haven County, Connecticut. Here is the information that I have: Thomas Potter b. abt. 1777 in (possibly Naugatuck) New Haven County, Connecticut m. Lucy (surname unknown) abt. 1795 in Connecticut d. August 5, 1857 Greene, Chenango, NY Thomas and Lucy had the following children: 1) Alanson Potter b. 1796 CT 2) Lemuel Potter b. 1798 CT 3) Rachel Potter b. 1800 CT 4) Sibbel Potter b. 1802 NY 5) Lucy Potter b. 1804 NY 6) Almira Potter b. 1806 NY 7) Thomas Potter b. 1808 NY 8) Miles Potter b. 1810 NY 9) Emily Potter b. 1812 NY 10) Munson Potter b. 1815 NY 11) Louisa Potter b. 1818 NY 12) Charles Potter b. 1828 NY The 1850 US Federal census for Chenango Co. NY shows Thomas as being 72 years old and Lucy being 70 years old. Their youngest child Charles is found living with them in Greene. Munson Potter (son) is also living nearby. I would appreciate any information that anyone has to share in regard to this family. I am trying to find Thomas Potter's parents and the maiden name for his wife Lucy. Some information that I have found indicates that Thomas is the son of Lemuel Potter (b. 8 July 1747) and Rachel Perkins (b. 26 Sep 1742) of New Haven County, CT. However, to my knowledge, this family relationship is not proven. It is something that I found on the Internet and would like to confirm with documented proof. I am glad to share the Potter information I have with anyone interested. Thank you. Nick Mizaur [email protected]
Hi Roger, Here is what I found in New England Families, Vol IV, Genealogies and Memorials, written by William Richard Cutter, Page 1723: William Dudley, was born in Richmond, formerly Sheen, in Surrey, England, and came to Guilford, Connecticut in 1639, with Rev. Henry Whitfield, as part of the Eaton and Hopkins expedition. He married Jane Lutman, of Wysborough Green, August 24, 1636. He was representative in the general court for Guilford, and died March 16, 1683-84. His wife died May 1, 1674. He was the son of David Dudley, of Darking, county of Surrey, 1630, a wheelwright by occupation. He was the son of Squire Thomas Dudley, born about 1586, of Darking. His wife's name was ____ White. He was married in 1612 and died in 1649. He was one of twelve children of Robert Dudley, born 1533, died 1584. Robert Dudley was the son of Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, who married (third) Lettice, daughter of Sir Francis Knolles, widow of Robert Devereux, Earl of Essex. He was the son of John Dudley, Duke of Northumberland, born 1502, beheaded 1533, married Jane Guilford, born 1504, died 1555, daughter of Sir Edward Guilford. John Dudley was the son of Edward Guilford, born 1462, beheaded 1510, married Elizabeth, heir to Sir Edward Gray. Edward Dudley was the son of Sir John Dudley, born at Arundel Castle, Sussex county, died 1500, married Elizabeth Branshot, died 1499. Sir John Dudley was the son of Sir John Sutton, Lord Dudley, K.G., born 1406, died 1467, married Elizabeth, daughter of Sir John Berkley, Knight. I hope this helps. I have found it to be a reliable source. -Sue > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: [email protected] > Sent: Saturday, December 08, 2001 7:17 PM > To: [email protected] > Subject: [CTNEWHAV] William DUDLEY & Jane LUTEMAN > > Need some clarity on the parents of William DUDLEY b. 1608 in Richmond, Sheen > in Surrey, England; d. 1684 in Guilford, CT; married in 1636 Jane LUTEMAN b. > 1615 in Ockley, Surrey, England d. 1674 in Guilford, CT.
