    1. [CTNEWHAV] George Hubbard
    2. Tom or Donna
    3. I know there is much controversy over the Hubbard family. First the two George Hubbards. One of Wethersfield, Milford, Guilford and then the other that married Elizabeth Watts and lived in Middletown. Then again on the wife of the Guilford George whether she was Mary Bishop or not. I know TAG vol. 10; 1933 - "George Hubbard's wife" by Donald Lines Jacobus states she wasn't BISHOP but then on this website http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hubbard/hubbard_photos/connecticut_gleanings.htm states: The American Genealogist/Jacobus article, By Arthur M Hubbard - Feb 5, 2000 Categories: Connecticut, Geo H/Mary Bishop TAG vol. 10; 1933 - "George Hubbard's wife" by Donald Lines Jacobus <<Recites the article>>> The TAG/Jacobus information with cites can be found in the multi volume series of The American Genealogist. Many libraries have the series. I believe the following is the article in its entirety. Another researcher sent this copy to me but I have looked it up myself in the TAG and do not remember any editing. Concerning the validity of this article I think it is flawed. Thus the argument fails. The author demonstrates recklessness and arrogant assumptions. I think the flaw in the Jacobus article begins in Para 2-  It assumes that John Bishop cannot be the father of Mary Bishop wife to George Hubbard because of "unmentioned" dates of birth some known dates of death  and certain events of the period. This is where I believe this article starts tracking the wrong direction. Mary is traditionally listed as the first child of John and Anne Bishop. Anne may or may not be Mary's mother. Mary Bishop Hubbard died in 1675.  Anne Bishop died in 1676. John Bishop who died in d1660 certainly can be the father of Mary Bishop. I accept the c1605 DOB for Mary Bishop. The following children of John and Anne Bishop were: Mary, Anne (mJames Steel), John, Stephen, Bethia b1634-d1676 (mJames Steel b1622-d1675/6), Sarah. Ref Para 3-No doubt this Will exists and does not name her children in entirety just her known-surviving children. Ref Para 4 - This is taking a very large liberty in assuming the meaning of what Anne Bishop thought or meant in her Will to suddenly prove conclusively ones own argument. Records have James Steele married to both Anne Bishop and Bethia Bishop. This could be an error or possibly he had been married to Anne first and for whatever reason (Anne’s death) eventually married Bethia. It is additionally ridicules for Jacobus to assume that Elizabeth (whoever she may be, Grand daughter, step grand daughter, grand daughter in law -see para 5.) could not be refereed to as Grand daughter in the Will. Ref Para 6-And so, if this is as confusing to you as it was to Jocobus you might also decide to throw all caution to the wind and recklessly involve the Jordan family into this only if you adjust their history to conveniently fit your scenario. I do not know for sure the answers to who the Anne Bishop Will refers according to Jacobus. I have not seen this Will. This is something I will pursue when time allows. Any help will be appreciated. What I do know is that George Hubbard had a wife named Mary Bishop. Jacobus may not have had access to some of the research that is now available to researchers. He certainly was not part of the Internet information age. This is my analysis; your comments are welcome. I hope this is clear to you. ______END of ARTICLE on WEBSITE Can anyone clear this up with recent TAG or NEHGS articles?????????????????????? My line is George Hubbard, John Hubbard, Jonathan Hubbard, Mary that married Daniel Davis, Jonathan Davis, Mary Davis that married Smith Parke, Rueben Parke, Nelson parke, Avis parke that married John Linhart, Lemuel Linhart my grandfather.

    1. [CTNEWHAV] BRADLEY Surname/New Subscriber
    2. Leslie C & Maria C Bradley
    3. Hello from Guam! Thought I would introduce and in some cases re-introduce myself. I am a direct descendant of Isaac BRADLEY (ca. 1650~1713) who lived in New Haven, Branford and East Haven. Visited your fair New Haven in August of 2000 while on a research trip with my brother and cousin. Look forward to future exchanges. Rgs, Leslie C. Bradley

    1. Re: [CTNEWHAV] BRADLEY Surname/New Subscriber
    2. Hello Leslie, Bradley of course is a very common name along the shores of Connecticut, especially in the New Haven area. If you were to cross the New Haven Harbor from East Haven you would land in West Haven. In West Haven you will find two historic areas named after the Bradley family, Bradley Point and Bradley Rock, which are connected by a sand bar (at low tide). The Bradley family lived there for several generations and ran a restaurant call the Barnacle, the restaurant is now gone, (demolished in the 50's) the cause primarily just from time and the relentless hurricanes which took there toll. The Bradley family had their homestead along with other families right on Bradley point, the homes are now gone and the area has been made into a beautiful park (Bradley Park) which is at the beginning of a broadwalk which takes you to an area called Savin Rock, which at one time was an amusement park. Over time, this area also fell victim to the to the weather and was demolished and the broadwalk and parks were built. When I was a boy I grew up and played at both these areas with the Bradley kids (as we new them) and would always seek handouts from there father who managed the restaurant. This Bradley family may indeed tie back to your Bradley family. My first thought when I read your posting was "Leslie visited the wrong side of the harbor" Anyway I thought you would be interested in this information. I think you might get more information on the Bradley family and the area by contacting the West Haven Historic Society. I don't have the address but you can access this information via the web. Use a search engine (e.g., Google) and type in "West Haven + Bradley," you will find additional information there, you should also contact the Society and just ask. Also, try entering "Savin Rock + West Haven", you may also find the name Bradley referenced on that web page also. Regards, Gene Gilmartin - California [email protected] .

I know that Gary Boyd Roberts in Genealogies of Connecticut Families", printed in 1983, has disproved their alleged descent from the Thompson family of Lenham, Kent Co., Eng. Is there any recent info on them? I descend from John Thompson and his wife Dorothy ?????. Thanks, Steven C. Perkins Steven C. 3. Well, It won't be "photo" nice, but I have made poster size & larger at our local Kinko's. They have a copy machine that most of the architects use for blueprint copies. Black and white, they are about $4.50 each. I use it for family trees that I have printed out and taped together. kathy ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Hartman" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, January 06, 2002 11:46 AM Subject: [CTNEWHAV] St. Francis Society 1895 Wallingford, CT > St. Francis Society was formed by German Catholics in Wallingford in > 1895. The death records are very skimpy, just one liners. That is the info. I have listed in my files. I descend thru their Mary who married John Fowler. How do you descend? Here is the info. I have on George: Bishop Genealogy pg. 1 Mr. Hubbard was one of the earliest settlers in Wethersfield, CT, 1635. He was appointed as one of the two men permitted to trade with the Indians. From 1637 to 1640 he was a member of the General Assembly. According to Vol.1, of the Colonial Records of Conn., he was appointed by the General Court "to gather passages of God's providence which have been remarkable since the first of the Plantation". He removed to Guilford in 1648, and represented that settlement as "Deputy of the Colony" in 1657-60, 1662 and 1665. He practiced surveying both at Wethersfield and at Guilford. He was a magistrate from 1670 to 1676. ***** "History of New Haven to it's Absorption Into Connecticut", Atwater George Hubbard was in Wethersfield in 1636, probably came there from Watertown, and was a representative from Wethersfield in the first General Assembly in 1643. He removed to Milford and is recorded on the Milford map of 1646. (there is a map on p 155 of the book). In 1650 he was in Guilford, where his wife Mary died Sept 16, 1676. He d Jan, 1683. From hjis seven or more children,a large number of people have descended. (See the Hubbard Genealogy, 1895, 512 pages, NY) ***** From Arthur M. Hubbard George Hubbard died in Guilford (CT) in January 1683. His will, on record in the Probate Office of New Haven, has a codicil dated May 23, 1682, in which he stated that his life had been prolonged, and devised a room in his house to his daughter Elizabeth. The inventory of his estate was taken May 30, 1683. George Hubbard's wife, MARY, daughter of John BISHOP, one of the original proprietors of Guilford, whom he married in England. She died Sept. 14, 1675. George and Mary were survived by eight children: Mary, John, Sarah, Hannah, Elizabeth, Abigail, William and Daniel. Children: Mary was married in 1647 to John Fowler, a Deputy Magistrate and deacon of the church at Guilford. She died in 1713. Sarah, born in Wethersfield in 1634, was married to Daniel Harrison of New Haven, and went to Newark, New Jersey. Hannah, born in Wethersfield in 1637 married Jacob Melyen, son of Patroon, Cornelius Melyen of New Haven in 1662. They removed to Boston, where she died in 1717. Elizabeth, born in Wethersfield in 1638, was married late in life to Deacon John Norton of Guilford. Abigail, baptized in Milford May 26, 1644, was married in 1657 to Humphrey Spinning of New Jersey. Daniel, baptized in Milford May 26, 1644, married Elizabeth Jordan, and died in Guilford in 1720. His grandson, Daniel, was one of the wealthiest men of New England, and at his death in 1751 left an estate valued at more than 20,000 pounds. (we have no English pound sign on our keyboards, sorry). William, youngest son of George and Mary (Bishop) Hubbard, married Abigail Dudley, and settled in Greenwich, CT. The grave of George Hubbard was in the Guilford cemetery, south of where the soldiers' monument now stands in the center of the Guilford village green. This cemetery was not used after 1817, and the gravestones were removed. An interesting relic of George Hubbard is still in existence (remember, this was pub in 1914) in Guilford and has never been out of the Hubbard family. It is a linen chest brought by him from England. it is made of oak, is about four feet high and two feet deep, with a crude scroll work embellishing the front. The wood, all except the panels, is two inches thick, and is held together with wooden pegs. It formerely opened at the top, but a...... (that's where I run out of this document, sorry.) ***** Hope that helps. I'll get back to you on the probate papers. Tracy
