    1. Re: [CTNEWHAV] GedLink
    2. D.R. Doc Young
    3. I use Gedlink and I recommend that you invest in Norton Internet Security. Gedlink works on you sharing a directory with your gedcom file in it. Which you would need to update everytime you made changes. I have asked Gedlink on several ocassions about security with this method of sharing and what keeps someone from hacking into other areas of your hard drive. On their FAQ page http://www.gedlink.com/web/en/support/faq.asp Nothing addresses security, Gedlink has tried to assure me that their software prevents this....sure just as Microsoft prevented those from accessing Outlook and most recently Windows XP. The following is from their FAQ page. What does GedLink do with my data? When you share a Gedcom file, GEDLINK analyzes the information. It then sends a summary of this information to the directory. The summarized information contains: first name, family name, year of birth and death, place of birth and death. This information automatically remains in the directory as long as you keep your files shared in Gedlink. The comments, precise dates, family ties and any other information are neither summarized nor sent to the GedLink directory. What are the avantages of GedLink? With GedLink, your genealogy data remains on your own PC. GedLink allows you to share your updated files! You retain complete control over the use of your Gedcom files. GedLink facilitates the extraction of parts of Gedcom files and their exchange among members. GedLink is international, multilingual and patented! Sincerely, D.R. 3. I use Gedlink and here is the answer about costs How much does Gedlink cost? Is it free? GedLink needs your help to keep the system up-to-date and to ensure its continual growth. This is why we propose that you become a member of the GedLink Network by contributing a small fee. Remember, you can carry out research, share data and contact other people for free as long as you wish. Last but not least, during the test phase non-members can enjoy almost the same features as members do. Sincerely, D.R. 3. I cant answer Bill's question but I can say that I have Guilford (and Haddam) Hubbards in my line that I dont know anything about that I would *love* to! I have a Martha Hubbard marrying Hubbard Fowler Benton on Feb 1, 1801. Martha was of Haddam and born 1766 and died 1834 (She moved to Guilford I assume because Hubbard Benton was from Guilford). Their children are: Caroline (married John Russell) Rachel (married Alex Stevens) Mary (unmarried) Marcus HUbbard (married Elizabeth Huntley) Moninia (married Timothy Dudley) Merrit Fowler (married Anna M. Mandeville) Martha (married Darling Byington) ** This is my direct line** If you happen to know anything about thsi Martha Hubbard I would love to know!! I should be receiveing my Guilford Barbour Collection index tommorrow, I can lookup your person and see if he is there! -Grace > In a message dated 1/6/02 8:01:18 AM Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] > writes: > > > > Does anyone have access to a copy of George Hubbard's will that I could > > get a zerox? or an address where I could write to get one? > > > > died in Guilford in January, 1683. 3. Dear Deb, The GILBERT bunch was a pretty large family in New Haven. We could probably see how they connect in the Donald Lines Jacobus work on Families of Ancient New Haven" but I am not sure off the top of my head. Where did your Gilberts live? Did they migrate away from New Haven? If I learn more about the family in context of the politics of the day, I'll try to pass it on. Have you read the snippet in the 1838 Gazetteer by John Barber--If I am remembering correctly it mentions the circumstances of Captain John Gilbert's death briefly. I am researching the years when my Linus Gilbert family was in Woodbridge and Litchfield township. 2. I don't understand this either...the Ct Society of Genealogists have reprinted all (i think) of the Ct Vitals up to 1850, so how did they with copywrite protection? > Educate me please- how do I know if a record is > copywrited? >

    3. I just received my great grandfather's birth certificate, barely a week after sending for it! AND the date I supplied (from CT death index) was wrong and they found it for me anyway! Thank you Elinor Pedalino- registrar! MaryLynn __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send FREE video emails in Yahoo! Mail! http://promo.yahoo.com/videomail/
