There is Julia McGivney, who signed it on Feb 20, 1890, but did not indicate where she was from. 1. [CTNEWHAV] "Phantom Ship"
    2. Owen Berio
    3. Some weeks ago I sent a e-mail message to the New Haven Historical Society inquiring if there were any monuments for the "Phantom Ship". I'm trying to gather the rudiments of our family history and although myself , my dads family and his dad were born in New Haven we never dreamed that our roots extended back to George Lamberton and the early New Haven Colony. So I'm asking, does anyone know if such a monument exists? If so, what local government agency is responsible for it? What I'm after is a picture or perhaps a book available via my rural library that has a picture. Owen Owen Berio

    2. I am in search of Margaret C. Welch. It seems that her life events were centered in New Haven County, but I have failed to pin point which town. She was born on Sept 26, 1865 and married John J. Pratt in 1896. She had a daughter (Mary Irene Pratt) born April 5, 1897 before moving to NJ some time before August 1899. I also wonder if "Autograph Books" were popular in the late 1880s and early 1890s. Her book is from Sept 1887 to Feb 1893, and of the more that 90 entries, most are from Birmingham (now Derby), Bridgeport, New Haven and Shelton Connecticut. The most frequent names are Beeman, Carroll, Costigan, Flynn, Kelly, McCabe, Murphy and Nugent. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I will also share any information in Grandma's book, but be forewarned that the names in her book are like the Ivory Snow commercial. 99-44/100 pure-------Irish Thanks, Bill

    3. Are you aware that the company A.C. Gilbert was in Hartford Conn? I believe at one time they built trains. I may be wrong, but think they were toy trains. During WWII, my parents worked there because it had been converted to a munitions factory. (Ammunition) Some where on the web I read they were also manufacturer of guns of some sort. You might try a large library if you are near one. There is a series of books written by JACOBUS. He compiled many, many early records of births, marriages, and deaths, then put the famies together. I is a wonderful series, and well respected as one of the primary sources of New England History. The series was written in the later part of the 1800's. I have to go to our state library because we are small tows. By the way, my mothers family came from Woodbridge, Conn also. I know they have a Historical Society there. If you mailed your request to the Town Offices, Woodbridge, I know they would receive it. Then ask if they will forward it to the Hist. Soc. There is also a LDA Family Center in Woodbridge. Sometime s they have volunteers who help out. Because they have all the Microfilm, etc. at that Family Center, they might look one or two things for you. 3. I inherited a scrapbook of greeting cards given to my grandmother for her wedding, Christmas, etc. The names of the people who sent them have provided me with new relatives and clues, but some are still unknown. I wonder if anyone has a link to these people. My grandparents were Ruby Tirrell from Orange and Edward Perry from Branford and married in 1940. I have Hannah and Mike Madey, Frank and Bernice Mozealous, Joe and Grace Scobie, Evie and Charlie, Ma Smith, Ma Lacy, Aunt Ella and Anna Calvert. 2. Jerry: We did the whole Orlando thing--Universal, Disney. Did not do seaworld altho we stayed at a condo right near it. I did not have time to call the Heritage center today before they closed. Apparently, the information is there because there is no other place to put it and it is disorganized. The University donated the space. There is no web site or e-mail. Idid not save your e-mail but I remember you were looking for Jewish records --was it Russian or German? The area of New Haven where the Jewish community was and still is is Westville. Quite a few large cemeteries. I live in Hamden, which borders New Haven and at one time had a large German-Jewish population. There is one smallish cemetery which is all that remains of a thriving community once called "Hamburg". I will be in touch. Judy

    2. Jerry: Just returned from Orlando. Had a great time! Anyway, try this: Jewish Historical Society, Ethnic Heritage Center, SCSU Wintergreen Building, 501 Crescent Street, New Haven, Connecticut 06515-1355. Phone: 1-203-392-5860 or 6125. I live right near the campus and plan to go over there as soon as I can figure out what building they are in. Apparently, the University has agreed to house this information. It is called the Ethnic heritage Center. I will save your address and let you know what they have available. They comprise historical societies representing Jewish, Afro, Irish, Ukranian and other ethinic groups. You take care, Judy

    2. Anyone else interested in the SPIVAK, MCWEENEY or BELASCO families in the New Haven area in the early 1900's? Anyone have an idea on how to locate a synagogue in New Haven that would have catered to Russian Jews during that period, or may have had a rabbi named A. Rosen who married a Minnie Spivak to Levi J Belasco in 1910? Any suggestions on how to contact someone who can and will look up some marriages and other records at the Health Dept? Thanks, Jerry Klein, Orlando.

    1. [CTNEWHAV] Bad weather in Waterbury..
    2. Around 1936 or 38, the Connecticut River flooded badly. It effected Hartford, to the extent that they decided to build dikes after that. My folks & I lived on Main St. in the north end of Hartford. They left the house and we went to stay with Grandma until the danger was over. This probably would have effected Waterbury also.
