    3. In New Haven, I'm researching the following line: ANDREWS: CONN>WI>MN>CA Robert Nathaniel ANDREWS, born July 6, 1827, Cheshire Connecticut, married Sarah Favorite SHEPARD, born Oct. 31, 1831, in 1849. Sarah Shepard was the daughter of Isaac SHEPARD and Sarah LINDSEY of Southington, Hartford, Connecticut. Robert and Sarah had four children, Rupert Andrews, Helmus Andrews, Alice Andrews, and Lois Andrews McKee. Robert ANDREWS is a major brick wall. I have been unable to locate any birth or Christening record and thus have no clue as to his parents. Michal Happy 4th of July! 3. My great grandfather, Giuseppe Sparano ( b ~1865 in Benevento Province, Italy) m. Emanuela Asunta DeNigris (b 25Oct1867 in Puglianello, Italy). They came to New Haven CT about 1892 with Emanuela's mother, Lucia Franco DeNigris. My grandfather, Biagio Sparano (aka Robert Sprano) was born in New Haven 2Feb1893, they resided 12 Minor Street......about 1895 they moved to Derby, where 3 more children were born....Edwardo, Maria, and Salvatore. Their first 2 children, Mary and Raffaele were born in Italy before they immigrated to CT. I have found Giuseppe Sparano in the Derby City Directory in 1915, then have found no other information. Family say he went back to Italy, and died there in 1919. The Sparano children all changed the spelling of their last name to Sprano. Lucia Franco DeNigris had other children that came to CT. So far have been able to find names of some of the children, from the ships records..i have: DeNigris, Cantautina (sp?) (Connie) b ~1874, Maria b ~1875, Giuseppe (Joseph) b ~1877, Luigi (Louis) b ~1882 and Philomena (Florence) b ~1885. It is believed they all immigrated to Derby, then settled in the New Haven CT area. Family believe that Lucia Franco DeNigris was living with her daughter Florence and Florence's husband Louis in New Haven when she died. prior to her declining health and death, they lived in Oakville/Watertown CT.Seeking a surname for "Uncle Louis"....Florence and Louis had a grocery store on Grant Street in New Haven, about 1930, have also heard that they took in boarders. Seeking death and burial place for Lucia Franco DeNigris, surname of "Uncle Louie", death and burial place for Florence and Louie. any and all assistance on this branch of the family is gratefully appreciated. I can string together the Giuseppe Sparano family pretty much, but have nothing on the DeNigris. thank you sandee@ionet.net

    3. I'm still looking for the Jerusha (_____) who married Felix MEIGS (his dates are 1735-1803). A tentative birth date of 1740 appears in the Ward genealogy, but with no documentation. I don't know where Jerusha was born, or where or when she and Felix were married, but it was possibly sometime in the mid-1750s, as their oldest child was born in 1758. Jerusha and Felix lived in the Guilford area until after 1790, when they moved to Vermont, where Felix died. Jerusha moved on with a daughter and son-in-law to Franklin County, New York where she died, probably sometime between 1810 and 1820. One big problem is that Felix was a boatman and he may also have made one or more deep-sea voyages, so he could have met and married Jerusha almost anywhere. I don't think she was a Connecticut girl; I haven't seen her in the Guilford records, in Bailey's early marriages or in the Marriage Licenses in the Province of New York Prior to 1784, or anyplace else I've looked. Their children married COOKs, FRISBIEs, NASHes, PONDs and WILLARDs. If anyone with these surnames also has Felix MEIGS in their family, I'd love to hear about it. Maybe we can compare notes. I have all the information I need on the MEIGS family, except for Jerusha.

    3. Hi, Edith, According to History of the Adams & Evarts Families, Jerusha was an Evart, and her line is: 43 Jerusha (19,) b 1732, m Felix Meigs 1755, had a daughter Sylvia b May 27, 1760. Her father was 32 WILLIAM. Born in 1700 married 1st Mary Ward of Guilford, Conn., married 2d, Mary Hayden. (See Foster's edition of the Baronetage, page 311, 1881.) It is also recorded that Sarah and William Everts died at an advanced age in Hertfordshire. I am sorry that there are no references for this in the book. There are also references to this couple being in Branford, CT for the 1790 Census. Good luck. Hope this helps. 1. [CTNEWHAV] Roll Call: David Jones (b. 1809, d. Aft 1880) Wales>MA>Hartford?>Rockville, CT>New Haven
    2. Richard Jones
    3. Looking for certain key facts pertaining to David Jones and his wife Ann (Thomas) Jones. Top of the list is birth information in Wales (not pertinent to this list), and death information (certificate, obit, or cemetery) possibly in New Haven, or in the case of Ann, other counties in CT (Note BMD indexes from the FHL for New Haven 1860-1898 have been examined, and many of the records during those years with no luck). Any New Haven city directory information after 1870? - 1900? will be greatly appreciated. Known facts are as follows; David Jones (1) was born in 1809 in Wales. His place of birth in a family record is given as "Bolla", Wales. No town named "Bolla" has been found in Wales, although there is a Bala in Llanfor Parish, Montgomeryshire which is a possibility. It is unlikely that he was christened with a middle name, since in the early 1800's the use of a middle name in Wales was uncommon. However in later records his name is given as David V. Jones. Based on the family record, the name of his son, and the naming practices of the time, it is likely he used the name David Vaughn Jones, where Vaughn is the maiden name of his mother. David married Ann Thomas "Annie" on 24 Mar 1837 in Llanllwchaiarn (a small parish near Newtown), Montgomeryshire, Wales. Annie was born 1812/1813 in Wales. 1841 British census finds them living on Horse Market Street, Newtown where David was employed in the woolen trade as a spinner. Three, possibly four, children were born in Newtown. They were; i. Elizabeth Jones "Betsy" b. 10 Nov 1838. Marriage and Death information is unknown. ii. Anna Jones b. 3 Jun 1841, d. Aft 1920 in New Haven. Married Albert Seeley Blackman (b. 27 Apr 1840, NY, d. 20 Jan 1890, New Haven), 24 Apr 1867 in St. Thomas Church, New Haven, CT. Resided at 137 St John, and 473 Elm. One adopted child, Ann Lillian Blackman, b. 28 Oct 1872, NY, d. 10 Dec 1954 , Branford, CT. iii. Robert Jones b. 14 May 1844., d. poss. 1910. iv. Possibly a David Jones b. 24 Jun 1848 but based on subsequent events, he must have died young. Around 1848, David left Wales for the United States. It is possible, though uncertain, that he sailed on the ship Ivanhoe from Liverpool, arriving in New York on 15 Aug 1848. Ann and her children, Elizabeth, Anna, and Robert, sailed a year later on the ship Liberty arriving in New York on 13 Sep 1849. On the ship manifest her occupation is given as "spinster". In the US Census, Williamstown district, of 1850, the Jones family is counted in Blackinton, a village in Berkshire Co., MA. Another child was born in Blackinton, v. David Vaughn Jones (2), b. 27 May 1851, d. 7 Aug 1915, Southington, CT. Married Mary Lucy Cadwell, 22 Sep 1875 ( a descendant of many colonial Hartford and New Haven families). A sixth child, Richard, was possibly born 8 Sep 1853. He must have died young. The Jones family (David (1), Ann, Elizabeth, Anna, Robert, and David (2)) removed from Blackinton and by 1860 were living in Rockville, Vernon Township, Tolland Co., CT. per the 1860 census, David was employed as a spinner. It is here we lose track the mother Ann, and children Elizabeth and Robert. Anna and David (2) are found in the 1870 census having removed to New Haven and Southington respectively. David (1) has not been definitively found in the 1870 census, but turns up again in the 1880 census living with his daughter, Anna (Jones) Blackman, at 137 St John St, employed as a "canvasser". The 1880 census is the last record found for David (1). The 1900 index has been searched with no luck. Given his age in 1880, and that his daughter Anna was still living in New Haven in 1900, without David (1), I have assumed he died there sometime between 1880 and 1900. However, fairly thorough searching of BMD indices and records available from the FHL for 1880 to 1898 have proven fruitless. Again, any information will be greatly appreciated. Richard Jones

Marie had been born to Thomas and Maria Caton (Keating) on 21 May 1816. At some point the family lived near/at Staleybbridge, near Manchester, England. I don't know anything about their passage to America. Their children were: Mary Selby b. 4 May 1837, married Alfred Barnett Fannie Selby Eliza Selby who was naturalized on 18 Mar 1871 and died in 1896. Eliza is also buried at Pine Grove.
