    1. [CTNEWHAV] Birth Certificates
    2. Recently I received birth documents which my mother had kept. I have the birth certificate from New haven, baptismal certificate with my name altered {won't get into that!}. I also have a document issued by the Hospital of St. Raphael which is a certificate of birth with the hospital's seal signed by the doctor and the hospital administrator. I cannot recall ever seeing one of these documents before. Would there be a file at the hospital with these documents or a book? What would be the reason to issue this document when my birth certificate is on file in the vital records office. My guess is that you needed to physically take the document to city hall to register the birth. It seems a little redundant. Which brings me to the original question: Was it the parent's responsibility to register the birth or the hospital? If there are hospital records, I would like to get a look at them. Is this a legal doument? I was born in 1949 in New haven, Connecticut.

    3. Hi, My wife gave birth in three (3) different hospitals. Each one gave us a certificate (?) of birth for the baby. But they aren't what the government considers a birth certificate for purposes of e.g. passport application. The govt jurisdiction where they were born will issue an official birth certificate (on request). Of course they got the data from the hospital; and by interviewinng the birth mother. My sample size is small (three), but it is uniform. Hope this helps. 3. Thankfully you don't need much, but provide as much information as you can. I just got two dates of death by providing names and a range (1904-1906). Ct Vital Records was able to tell me where the deaths occured and the exact dates. As I mentioned in my first letter, checks MUST be made out to "Treasurer, State of Connecticut". If the check is incorrect they will still do a search and send the results but will not send you a death certificate. >Hi, > This sounds great for those of us who live a thousand miles away. (3) The State Registrar of Vital Records, may disclose, or authorize the disclosure of, data contained in the vital records when deemed essential for bona fide research purposes which are not for private gain. Sec. 25. In accordance with Section 24 of this Act, and the regulations adopted pursuant thereto: (1) The State Registrar of Vital Records shall search the files of birth, death, and fetal death records, upon receipt of a written request and a fee of $10 from any applicant entitled to such search. It is a picture of an infant with a nurse standing in a yard --very non descript--could be anywhere. So I brought the photo home thinking--probably a wealth family--I should have no problem locating the family. I have had no luck--bought it at New Milford, Connecticut. Would love to send it to the family. I have tried all the usual searches--no luck. Any ideas appreciated. Judy

Close by was "Farnums pig farm". Dad said Farnum had the contract for collecting New Haven's garbage. It was about a smelly mess as you could imagine. There were numerous pens in various stages of disrepair. When approaching you could smell it before you could see it. As I remember the poor house was built in "tenement style of two or three stories high. I don't remember what the front looked like but the back had full length porches and outside stairs.
