Hi, I'm a native of Clinton recently relocated to Illinois, trying to verify a genealogical record started in the 1930's and hand-copied by a cousin in 1989. In Killingworth/Clinton among the oldest Killingworth ancestors are: KELSEY: several lines in the KELSEY KINDRED such as Josiah Kelsey Sr b 26 Jan 1668 at Killingworth who married Elizabeth JARVIS or GARNICE (no marriage date or further info on her, born ca 1710?) CARTER: Josiah Carter Sr b 14 Mar 1738 at Killingworth, died 17 Nov 1794 at Killingworth, married Sarah KELSEY, b 5 June 1736 at Killingworth, died 13 Nov 1829 at Killingworth, daughter of Daniel KELSEY, b 22 Mar 1698 at Killingworth. Also Robert CARTER, b 1673? Bristol, England, died 7 Nov 1751 at Killingworth, who came to Bristol, RI and was a shipbuilder on the Indian River in Killingworth in 1710. Was the original Carter on Carter Hill Road in the northern part of what is now Clinton. Robert's son Samuel CARTER, b 12 May 1695 in Bristol, RI was married 19 Mar 1722 at Killingworth to Elizabeth NETTLETON. NETTLETON: ELIZABETH, above, who married Samuel CARTER, was the son of John Nettleton, Jr. and Sarah Woodmanse (or Woodmancy, see below). John was the son of John (Sr) and Martha Hull. Martha was the daughter of Lt. Josiah Hull Sr. and Elizabeth LOOMIS. John NETTLETON Sr died 18 Mar 1691 [ed note can someone verify?] who was the son of Samuel NETTLETON, who died 1644 at Branford, Conn. WOODMANSE (WOODMANCY): Sarah, born Mar 1673, married John NETTLETON, Jr., 21 Jan 1691 [something wrong here] in Killingworth. She died 1723. Sarah was the daughter of Gabriel Woodmancy who purchased a homestead in New London, Conn. in 1665 and died about 1685. Anyone have anything else on this family?
