I'm proud to announce the commencement of a new USGenWeb site for New London, New London Co., CT: USGenWeb New London, CT http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/newlondon.html New London, first settled in 1646, was founded and laid out by John Winthrop, the younger - son of John Winthrop who led the 2nd great Puritan emigration from England. The towns of Groton, Waterbury, Ledyard and East Lyme were formed from sections of New London. As many of you may known from your genealogy researching of New London ancestors, early VRs of the town are scarce. The town was burned down in 1781 by a British force led by the infamous Benedict Arnold. The town records were mostly destroyed.
