Spencers of the Great Migration, p 2, shows another Thomas between Robert and Henry above??. It should also be noted that the placement of Henry and Isabella in the above scheme conflicts, timewise, with the date of death of Henry, husband of Isabella Lincoln, 1478, given in Ancestors of American Presidents. AAP also does not show the Spencer brothers as cousins to the four Spencer presidents in his book. The top two levels in SOTGM are questionable, in my opinion. >Gerard Spencer, bpt 25 Apr 1614 at Stotfold, Bedfordshhire m.(1) Hannah >Hills("The Spencers of the Great Migration"), d. before 1683 (Gerard's >will), m.(2) in 1677 at Saybrook,CT, Rebecca(Porter)Clark, daughter of >John and Anne(White) Porter, he d. ca 1685. ( It is possible he was >marries to two different Hannahs first. One in 1635, and then Hannah >Hills) It should also be noted that the surname Hills, in SOTGM, for Gerard's wife, only comes from IGI records. Likely not a reliable record in this case. This would mean that all the Spencer researchers heretofore missed this in Vital Records?? I seriously doubt the use of the name Hills for her. I am surprised the SOTGM would use the IGI as a source in a published genealogy. As I understand it, the only "logic" used for having the second wife is an unaccounted-for "Rebecca Spencer" who died in early days in either Haddam or Norwich, I forget right now. An earlier researcher concluded this must have been a Porter for some reason, and the only "logical" place for her in the Spencer tree was with Gerard. No direct evidence was given. Do you know of any more evidence for this second wife? Do you know where does the date 1677 come from?? Thanks for your support.
