    3. DR. EARNEST ELLSWORTH SMITH (b.1867)died in NYC in 1930. After that, his widow, MRS LILIAN IRENE (CHURCH) SMITH(1862-1957) and their son, DR. HAROLD ELLSWORTH SMITH(1890-1974), and his wife, MADITH MACULLAR (WOOD) SMITH(1900-1991) moved to MIDDLEFIELD to live in their family home on Way Road, where they had spent summers and vacations until then. The young Dr. Harold E. Smith closed his medical practice in NYC to become a country doctor, which he loved more than anything! His wife was a city girl, and moving full time to the country took some adjustment for her, but she came to love it and called it home. ELLSWORTH CHURCH SMITH(1921-1996), their son, and their daughter, MADITH "JUNE" WOOD SMITH), grew up there, and in NY. ELLSWORTH was married to MILDRED LOUISE GARDINER (daughter of H. MARSHALL and BERTHA EMILY (CHASE) GARDINER from Nantucket) in 1947, and they built a home on a hill next to the Mince Farm in Middlefield in 5 acres of woodland. They had three children, all born in Middlefield: PETER BLAKESLEE SMITH, DALE-KIMBERLY SMITH, and JEFFREY MARSHALL SMITH. They were members of the Middlefield Federated Church. If anyone knows more about this particular SMITH family, please email me. These Smiths are cousins of Middlefield Millers, Church, Abel, and came to Middlefield from New Haven, from Scotland on the ship Hector in the 1600's. Kim nfn13753@naples.net
