Did J. C. Reed really come from Holland (b 1759) to Durham, CT as his son Salmon's census information said? Was his name John, or Johann, and where was he when he first married and had his 5 (?) sons John, Wm., Martin, Salmon and Samuel? Who was Rebecca (?) whom he married? Did the boys have different mothers to explain their distant birth dates? Did he spend time in NY? What did he do before 1785 or so when his boys were born? Was he always a farmer and laborer? Why come to Durham from Holland? Did he arrive in the middle of the Revolution? Does he have connections with other Colonial families? I could really use some good clues here, so if you have an inquiring mind and some sources to suggest I would really appreciate a bit of help. He is my 4g- grandfather and insists on remaining a mystery despite my best efforts to uncover his past. Thanks for any help or suggestions. Carol H. Boggs
