> Um.....so describe the difference between Saybrook and Old > Saybrook....inquiring minds would like to know....... I found this on the Old Saybrook page at http://nw3.nai.net/~sanner/ First established in 1635, Saybrook Colony encompassed all or parts of the modern day communities of Lyme, Old Lyme, Chester, Deep River, Essex, Westbrook, and Old Saybrook. The town of Old Saybrook as we know it today was incorporated in 1854. Guess I'm going to have to locate a history of the town to see when part of the area went into New London Co. Jane
Jane, The info I just sent in a previous reply, came for Connecting to Connecticut, by Betty Jean Morrison, 1995. In my Atlas it is also in Middlesex county. The dividing line between Old Lyme, NL county and Old Saybrook, MS county, runs right down the middle of the CT river. I appreciate the time and trouble you and others took to set me straight on Connecticut geography. I'm going to include Saybrook residents when I gather in records of Middlesex Co. residents from other areas on the theory that with the borders changing several times, it's better to include them than not. Thanks again. Jane
