In the book, Bogue genealogy, Descendants of John Bogue of East Haddam, Conn and Wife Rebecca Walkley by Flora Bogue Deming, c.1944, Page 1: John Booge (Bogue) married 11 Aug 1692 Rebecca Walkley. Richard (referring to Walkley) came to Saybrook about 1644. Their residence was East Haddam, Conn. John Bogue served several terms in the Legislature. Rebecca Walkley taught the first school in East Haddam. Page 2: "Rebecca Walkley, dau. of Richard and Rebecca Walkley, was born in East Haddam, Conn., Aug 12, 1672, and died in East Haddam, Mar. 25, 1733 from Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1657, though Richard was born in Gloucester, Eng. He bought of Samuel Butler of Weathersfield, his home lot and home in Haddam which is on the southeastern slope of what is now Walkley Hill and is still in possession of his descendants. Richard and Rebecca had three children: Richard, Rebecca, and another son who probably died young. The above was copied from the Walkley Genealogy and sent to virgit t. Bogue by Mrs. Grace Walkley Williamson of Forestville, Conn. In the Boston Public Library is a volume, Tragedy of Othello, written by William Shakespeare, London, printed for Thomas Walkley to be sold at his shop at the Eagle and Child in Brittans Bursse, 1662." There are several other paragraphs in the Introduction about Richard and Rebecca stating "date and last name not known". Mrs. Deming also sites as sources the Walkley Genealogy and Colonial Records and Newberry Library in Chicago, Book on American Ancestry. "He first appears in the Colonial Records of Hartford, Conn., May 21, 1657." Regards, Janece Carter Streig
