It does seem most likely that Provan/Stow in Norfolk County connect back to those earlier Stow's. It always made me wonder why William Stowe left his young son with another family and assumed they must be related. Although all the census references say the Provan's are scottish. I have never found what happened to William's daughter Naomi Stow, the firstborn, who was 4 in 1861. William senior's 1st wife died around 1870 after having a son George in 1870 in NY state. William Stow remarried to a widow (Mrs. Udell I think) with a child or children very quickly in NY state. Then in 1879 he went to prison in Ontario Canada. I believe he spent the remainder of his life in NY state after. The family are supposed to be in the 1870 Niagara NY census but I have not found them then or later. This is what I have on William Provan: 1851 Charlotteville township Norfolk county Ontario Canada, farmer, 36, wife Margaret also 36 with children Margaret 11, Ma! ry 9, John 7, Isabel 3, Jane 2 living in a 1 1/2 story frame house. I don't have the 1861 info but can look it up when next at the library. 1871 Charlotteville census: William Rovan (Provan) 54, Presbyterian, farmer, widower, daughters Margaret 24, Isabella 28, J?? female (that would be Jane) 16 and William STOW 9 (he was born Feb 17, 1861). In 1881 Charlotteville census: William Provan 64, farmer, daughter Magga 33 unmarried, and William STOW 19. 1891 Census John Provan - William's son - 45, I didn't write any other details for him and I don't have William Provan in 1891??. He may have died. 1901 Charlotteville census the unmarried daughter Margaret Provan(56) is at the home of her sister, Isabel D (51) and Thomas Reeves (51) with their son Charles A Reeves (19) born Sept 26, 1881. It would surely be exciting for me if I could find the parents of Schuyler STOW as well as his wife's family name. She is Lydia Ann in one of the censuses but all other references I ! have including her will have her name as Gitty Ann. There seems also to be Michigan connection that I have not been able to follow yet. But I have only been working on this family for a few months. But I have done quite well so far.
