    3. LDS location search lists Portland & Chatham wills from 1824 & later. East Hampton Says Portland has early 1800 wills for East Hampton. Portland probate is hard to reach by phone due to limited hours. Middletown doesn't have the wills I need. Where should I be looking? I'm looking for wills for: Abraham Baily circa 1811 Isaac Smith circa 1818 * 1824 Amasa Smith after 1806 Thanks

    3. There is a good chance that the probate records that you are looking for are in East Haddam or in Colchester. The Connecticut Researcher's Handbook has: East Hampton Probate District , organized 1 June 1824 from the East Haddam and Middletown Probate Districts. Portland Probate District, organized 22 April 1913 from the East Hampton Probate District. East Haddam Probate District, organized October 1741 from the Hartford Probate District. Probate Districts organized from the East Haddam Probate District include the Colchester, East Hampton, Hebron and Middletown Probate Districts. The records previous to May 1832 are at the Colchester Probate Court.
