You will find many Hubbard's living in Middletown and the surrounding towns. Hubbard is surname that is associated with the town of Meriden. There is a park bearing the family name in that town. Just in the Middetown Barbour collection there were a number of listings for the name Joseph Hubbard. Joseph ND may not be the son of a Joseph. The ND may mean there was an older sibling with the name Joseph who died before this Joseph was born; or there was another older member of the family with the name Joseph. Suggest you look at the Barbour records for a number of towns to see what you can find. Brooks is another surname that is found in many towns in that area. It's more likely that J. W. 's grandparents will be found in CT than in New York. Who are the Hubbard's you are trying to connect to their eastern roots? Where are they living and what years? Describe the family. It's easier to recognize people when you see them in their families (parents, children etc) than when you see them alone. Many people can have the same gives name, but every family is unique.
