Surnames: Lucas, Walker Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/xY.2ADI/105.1 Message Board Post: I have a Lucas from Middletown, my GGgrandmother, Fanny Lucas Walker, and I have plenty of information about her descendants, but none about her ancestors. My source for her Middletown origin is my grandmother's family tree of ca. 1950, and she was pretty careful. It probably came out of family records, and it is corroborated in the 1860 census. Otherwise, I might have thought she came from the Thetford, VT branch of the family, which is closer to Vershire, VT, where her husband-to-be was born. But people traveled around a lot in those days, visiting outlying relatives, and she may have been visiting cousins when they met. Someone should write a book on how people met in the early days, when travel was so difficult. Most of the time they married people from the next farm or in the same village, but a lot of times they didn't
