    1. Re: [CTMID] JOSEPH WICKHAM HUBBARD---Breaking the Block
    2. Sue, You welcome. Please don't take the following personally. I am sending this through the list, not to embarrass you, but because there a many others who can also benefit from my comments. You did good job describing Joseph and Susan given the information you have I learned more about his wife (her correct name) and his daughter.. Presumption can be a huge, major road block in genealogical research. It narrows our thinking, and keeps us from exploring new vistas. Thanks to the computer, we can sit in our homes, and look for information in faraway communities with no knowledge of those communities. When I sent you the information from the Barbour, I also gave you some suggestions where to look to find more Hubbards. Your response was: "Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find out to much on Joseph Wickham Hubbard and his ancestors. I presume they were all in Middletown, but they had to come from someplace." These couple sentences gave me the impression that you are not familiar with the geography of Connecticut and the closeness of the towns, In some parts of this country towns are considered small because of the size of their population. In Connecticut, many of our towns are small in land area. All towns share common borders with other towns. It is very easy for members of the same family to live near each other and still live in different towns. They can also live in one town and go to church or work in another town. In addition to giving you the information from the Barbour Colection, I also gave you the information on how to go to the same site so you could do further research yourself. Did you go there to see what else you could learn about Joseph Wickham Hubbard. Did you look for his siblings? If you had, you would have found he had sisters and a brother. There were marriage records for three of his sisters. Do you know where Joseph and Susan lived after they married? You said the family did not move to New York until 1856. That was 26 years after their marriage. Did you check the Barbour Records for other towns to see if you could find any birth records for their children. By reorganizing the information from the Middletown Barbour collection, combining the birth and marriage records, and posting the family of Joseph 2nd and Susan Carrington with their children, back on this list, there is a good chance someone might have recognized on of the siblings and been able to help you. Just using this information we will see that Joseph 2nd and his children married into five different families, Brooks, Bisley, Carrington, Hall, and Rust. This gives many opportunities for someone to have the information about Joseph 2nd's parents in their family research. And it gives you a number of different ways through which you can find the same information yourself. You do not have to sit around hoping someday someone will recognize Joseph or Susan. You will really have a lot of information to work with. Add the information you have about the descendants of Joseph W. and Susan, and you have even more. You are at the beginning of the journey, not the end. Follow the clues and you will eventually find what you are looking for.
