    2. Deb, is there any chance ships came into Cromwell? I'm trying to find the point of immigration in 1869 for my ggr, Charles Robin or Robbins who lived in Chester. It would be great if you'd check this out for me. Thank you so much.

    3. There is a section on shipbuilding..in Cromqwell...talks about a thriving trade with the West Indies. There was frequent exchange betweeen markets in NYC and Boston...in hthe 1700s.One of the wealthiset merchants was John Stocking. Some Cromwell people were privateers and were captured anmd sent to England on prison ships...then skipping ahead, there was the Ct. Steamboat Company that went from Hartford to Saybrook, started in 1818...then in 1823 it operated to NJ...no mention of immigrants coming in..but I'll skim some more later....My ancestors from the 1600s and 1700 came into Boston..but I do have one Swedish greatgrandfather who came to NYC in 1880...and he made his way up very quickly to Meriden, Ct. Trains were active ...it was very easy..I found old Port Chester, NY Journals from 1880...and it is filled with train schedules on the NY, New Haven and Hartford line. Most of the news is Ct. news...just like today (I grew up inPC) I had no idea that the trainswere so big back then...silly me....the paper looked as modern as my NY papers today, with all the train schedules. I guess I romantized 1880...they had plent of steam trains back then and people moved freely.
