He was probably born in CT where there were several PURPLE families in Middlesex county. His mother was a descendent of Thankful ISHAM and may have been a Chapman. He is in the 1820 E. Haddam census and in 1830, he was in Hamilton, Madison county NY. He was in NY state till 1860 when he appears in Kent county, Michigan.
