Regarding Inghams in any part of the US, watch for the announcement of Norman Inghams book on the Inghams due out in 2005. Ok, fair warning - I'm bragging a little here.. the site just passed 750,000 visitors early Monday morning.. Thanks go to everyone who has helped make it possible.. Coralynn, Janece, Dave, Ray, and all the others who have worked so hard on material to add to the files. There are close to 2200 files on the site now, not counting indexes and my descendant reports. Speaking of Descendant Reports, I've reworked that page so that along with the surname, the index shows where the family lived and the time frame before they married into another line. I hope this will make it easier for cousins to find connections. Jane list mom http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jdevlin/
I do not remember who it was, but someone also sent me pages on the Brainerd family. I am descended from Daniel Brainerd also. I would love to have any info that you might have. I connect to them through Lydia Brainerd who was a daughter of Aaron Brainerd and Lydia Homer. Lydia Brainerd was married to Challenge Morgan and they had 4 children: Challenge, Jr., Lorinda, Rhoda, and Lucy. God bless and have a happy holiday! Rolande Gay
The Saybrook Land Records, Book 1, pages 121 to 140, are now on line at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jdevlin/ Thanks go to Janece Streig for her continuing efforts at transcribing this data for our use. There are a lot of familiar names in these pages: TILLOTSON, TULLY, WATROUS, POST, BUSHNELL, CHAPMAN, LAY, JONES, PRATT, WILLARD, RUDD, JONES & COLLINS to name just a few. Jane wrote: >If you had family in the Saybrook area early on, you'll want to check the both the files from Book 1 I can honestly say that some of these records were so much fun reading. Both Jane and I wish some of these records were "our" families. In two recent instances, detailed family information was documented in the deed for inheritance purposes--from a married female member of the family tying them back to their father/brother. Be aware that the search engine only looks for exact spelling--soundex does not work. I have seen some of the family names spelt so differently, it would be hard to remember to key in every variation of the spellings. In all these deeds, we have tried to make sure that the surname is all in capital letters to help make it easier to find your family, although you do not need to type in all caps in the search engine. Also, in transcribing some of the deed records, I see names listed within the body of the deed that I have not yet seen an actual deed recorded for them. For example, the wording might be something like "bounded southwest on the lands of XXX." By glancing through some of these, you might find that XXX is someone in your family--with a spelling you have never seen before. That can at least place your family in a particular time and place to give you the clues to keep researching in that specific area. The other item I would like share is that in some of these deeds, you can note that one of the parties is from another town or colony. This is also a clue to help you find where that person came from, or was going to about this time. I have seen several articles lately regarding land record or deed research lately that are tremendously helpful to a genealogist. I wish I had some of these guidelines when I started doing "deed work" on my family tree. Now, it is my favorite part of research. Indexes are ok to get you started; but, just reading through other deeds at that same time brings more clues than ever for researching your family. Be aware also, that with the scarcity of some records, these deeds may be the only way you can "prove" from one generation to the next. I hope you are enjoying reading these deeds as much as I have. With at least 6 family lines in this book, these pages gives me more information of their lives in this early settlement. Janece

Hi, Dr. John Wesley Arnold, of Long Beach, CA, published two versions of "A Connecticut Arnold Memorial" -- one in 1990 and an updated version in 1999. I don't know if either version is for sale since no publisher is listed. I have seen both copies in the Connecticut State Library in Hartford, CT (CS 71.A75, 1999). I have made copies of most pages since I am descended from John Arnold of Hartford, CT. If you have questions about anyone in particular, I will look at my copies to see if I have information on them. Thanks Harry. I'm stuck at this point. I got Mary Smith's name from the Brainerd genealogy by Lucy Abigail Brainerd; Mary Smith is given as the wife of Joseph Wells. I checked Barbour for Haddam and surrounding areas with no luck; and I was hoping there someone on the list had done work on Haddam proprietor Simon Smith's family. Janece Streig has been able to obtain the missing pages from the Saybrook Land Records, Book 1, so pgs 108-116, 119-120 are now on line.. Thanks, Janece! Lots of family records & ear marks in this file along with deeds and land grants. If you had family in the Saybrook area early on, you'll want to check the both the files from Book 1 and the individual deeds that Janece has transcribed. The Barbour Collection doesn't indicate what happened to Mary, daughter of Simon and Mary. It does give her birth, but that's it. As for Mary who married Joseph Wells, the Barbour Collection doesn't give her maiden name. List Server # 5, which is where this list is located, has been down most of this week for repairs resulting in messages not going through. The problem now seems to be resolved and we should start seeing the messages that have been posted appearing, albeit several days late. I think that they're going to send them out over a day or two so as to not clog up everyone's mailboxes. Jane list mom http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jdevlin/

Apparently, others have have come to the same conclusion but there is no valid research to support this...and I'm wondering if you have any info about this Samuel or anyone else who might be Johns father???
