My first action was to check the APG website and notify them that she is using the credential but is not in their dtabase. I asked that they either investigate her business methods or instruct her to remove the credential from her website. I received a confirmation this afternoon tha the APG had read my e-mail. I've also filed a detailed complaint with the Connecticut BBB, which will be sent to the lcoal BBB for action. I doubt she's a member.

You may want to contact them about arbitration procedures. Quote: "Who can file a complaint?" .... "If you believe an APG member has violated this code Contact the office of the Executive Director (ED) through email or postal mail to request an official Complaint .... Include copies of written agreements, records of payment, emails or other correspondence, and any other items that will help the Professional Review Committee (PRC) understand your complaint against the member." This was found at http://www.apgen.org/ethics/index.html You may want to check with the town of Southington to see if she is registered with them and ask them what recourse you may take.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/xY.2ADI/758 Message Board Post: Just over a year ago I contracted with Sandra Novak, who does business as Family History Preserved, operating out of 91 Quail Hollow Drive in Southington, CT 06489. Among other credentials on her web site (www.familyhistorypreserved.com) she listed membership in the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG). After paying $200.00 for a specific research task which was to have taken 3 months, I have waited 13 months for the contracted material. I have made regular e-mail queries about the status and each time received a response indicating some reason for the delay. The reasons ranged from waiting for copies from various jurisdictions to sending my final report to the wrong person and waiting for it to be returned. When I insisted on receiving an interim report based on the soft copy she must have kept of the final report, I was given excuses for about three days, then received an e-mail with family group sheets for three individuals. The information was something I could have found in 15 minutes on the internet. My last communication from Ms. Novak was September 19 2004 when she informed me that she had not yet received my package from the client who received it in error, but would follow up as soon as she took care of a family matter. When I didn't hear from her, I sent a query on October 25 2004 to which I received no response. On November 21 I again sent an e-mail laying out the terms of our contract and informing Ms. Novak that I would pursue legal action if I did not receive a response within one week. I've received no response. This is one person's experience.

    2. Hi Don, The attached message was on the Connecticut board today. I wondered if you have the same information in our line. In particular, do you have these people as part of Clarissa Cone's line going: Clarissa James Wells Cone James Cone & Deborah Smith Joseph Cone & Susannah James Wells & Rebecca Seldon I haven't really researched this with primary sources or even secondary sources. I assume that you have. The Cone book most likely has this. There also was a second posting for Brainerd. Again, I am assuming that you are one this board. Hope that you and Lyn have a peaceful and happy Thanksgiving. Love, Sue
