Surnames: McFarland, Fowler, Richardson, Abercrombie Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/xY.2ADI/761 Message Board Post: I am trying to find the death dates for two persons buried in Trinity Cemetery: Janet M. Fowler and Samuel K. Richardson. Both died in 1922, neither in Portland. Janet M. Fowler, called Jennie, was the daughter of David McFarland and Catharine Abercrombie; she is buried in the same plot with them. She was born in Portland in 1856, and married JC Fremont Fowler in 1880. He died in Portland, Maine in 1887. Jennie eventually returned to Connecticut, first to Waterbury, then back to Portland. She moved to Summit, NJ in about 1915 to live with her daughter, my grandmother, to help her care for my father and uncle. She is in the Summit city directory until about 1919, and is not in the 1920 Census. Her year of death is from a transcription of the Trinity Cemetery gravestones done in the 1930s. Samuel K. Richardson was Jennie Fowler's brother-in-law. He was the son of Artemas Richardson and Charlotte Strong; he married Mary McFarland in 1875. They lived in Portland for many years, then moved to Middletown. They were in Canton, OH with their older daughter in the 1920 Census, but he did not die in Ohio. Mary lived in the Masonic Home in Waterbury from about 1924 until her death in 1950; Samuel may have lived their before his death, although I have not been able to confirm this. If anyone has any information on either of these two persons, I would appreciate hearing from you.
Barbara - I would enjoy seeing your information also. Janet Buchanan
Rebecca - I am descended from Robert and Sarah Pickett Lane through their son, John and Lydia Kelsey Lane. How do you descend. There is a lot of information out there on the Lane's including a book. I have not done a lot of personal research on the Lanes and Picketts but my greatgrandmother's notes have a bit of information which I have. Janet Buchanan

As promised (or threatened <g>) the next week, Jan 1 to Jan 7, will be the time for our annual Middlesex Co., CT, roll-call of those elusive ancestors we've been trying to find. For those of you who don't want a lot of messages flooding your mail-boxes, I'll repeat the instructions to change to the Digest mode (1 or 2 messages a day) at the end of this email.. OK, now for the rules (you knew there had to be some, didn't you?) Please follow these suggestions: 1) Middlesex Co. families only, though where they came from and where they went after leaving Middlesex will help others identify them. 2) Change the subject line up there - put in your surnames and approximate dates - 1600s, 1850's, whatever, but give people a clue to who you're talking about and what era to make sure that your post isn't deleted unread. Putting the surnames in CAPITALS makes them stand out. 3) Give names & dates - you'll get more useful responses if you post about "Elisha FULLER, son of Elisha FULLER & Esther HUNGERFORD, b. 1749 in East Haddam, m. Sarah SPARROW, 9 Nov 1770, need Sarah's parents & siblings" than you will with just FULLER. [notice how I managed to insert one of my Roll in there?<g>] 4) To switch from List mode to Digest mode this send a message to CTMIDDLE-L-request@rootsweb.com that contains the word unsubscribe and then send a message to CTMIDDLE-D-request@rootsweb.com that contains the word subscribe To switch back to the List mode, just reverse the process. 5) Most important, have fun and let's see if we can solve a few mysteries in the process. Also, you can pay a mere $35 a year to the Godfrey Library in Middletown, CT (or free if your local library subscribes to Heritage Quest)....and get census images, thousands of books very well scanned and downloadable, the list goes on. Ancestry.com can't come near a value like that!!! Coralynn

Rebecca, Although I don't have their burial locations, I have other information on that family. The easiest way would be to send a pdf of my family group sheet. If you, and others, would like it, please e-mail me at computeriz@aol.com. Thank you, Barbara

Thanks Janece and Jane for all you do. Happy New Year to all. Carole CT
Janece Streig has completed all the Saybrook Book 1 Land Records she has at this time. Pages 241-264, 275, & 277 are now on line and filled with lots of information on the early inhabitants of the area. Thanks, Janece, for all your hard work transcribing both these land records and the Middlesex County town histories you've previously done. Well, quite a Christmas surprise from "cousin" Janece. Thanks a million to you and Jane for all your genealogical gifts this year and to those shared by others on the list. In the new year my e-mail will be martha.byrnes@verizon.net. Happy 2005! Martha
I hope everyone's holiday is warm & wonderful, filled with family & friends - the things that matter most. I want to thank all of you for being wonderful list members and sharing with each other. There are now over 2200 files on my site - what started out to be a few record files from Middlesex County has expanded to the rest of Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Jersey, New York and my home state of Michigan. Thanks go to Coralynn Brown, Janece Streig, Dave Swerdfeger, Ray Brown and everyone else who has contributed to the collection of data. Once again with the holidays and all those new computers and/or genealogy software that many will find under the tree today, we'll see an influx of new members in the days and weeks to come. Please remember that we were once all "newbies" and make them feel welcome. The list has been pretty quiet recently, so I think that after New Year's we'll have a roll call of our Middlesex County ancestors & brick walls. For those of you who don't want your mailboxes flooded with messages, there's plenty of time to switch from the List version where every message is delivered separately to the Digest version where you'll get to see all the messages, but they'll be in a single email. To do this send a message to CTMIDDLE-L-request@rootsweb.com that contains the word unsubscribe and then send a message to CTMIDDLE-D-request@rootsweb.com that contains the word subscribe To switch back to the List mode, just reverse the process. I'll send another message before January 1st with the details of the roll call and we'll have it for the period of *1 week* from January 1st to January 7th.. Again, have a wonderful holiday! Take care.. Jane list mom http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jdevlin/
