There are many unrelated BAKERs, since it's an occupational surname. But there are no WETMOREs or STOWEs left in Middletown. Though maybe in neighboring towns. Best, Warren

    3. I think that's one of the hardest parts of this research into TFW, Sr. and Andrew. Although census records say that TFW's parents were Irish I don't have any hard proof. I found with another line that if I hadn't researched the family further we would be thinking that they were Scottish rather than Irish. The McGarry's were from Ireland but the children were born in Scotland while they were awaiting transportation to the US during the potato famine. On census records it said that Annie was born in Scotland but she is of Irish heritage since both parents were Irish. It's a tough nut to crack to find his roots. 2. Hello Bill Luvs Beer, I can't answer your question about descendants there, but are you writing about the same William Baker whose real estate was distributed in 1782? His 40 acres of property at Crowley Corner was split among three sons: William Jr., Timothy, and Bayze Baker. A relative, Adam Rogers Jr., had assembled the same property between 1742 and 1754. My direct ancestor, Roswell Rogers, bought it back from the Baker sons in 1787, 1789, and 1792. I can't imagine it would have taken six years to probate William Baker's estate, although I do know there were noticably fewer land transactions during the Rev. War years. Mybe that slowed down settling of estates, too. What else can you tell me about the William Baker you're speaking of? If the same William Baker, I may add a note to the monograph I will be releasing this fall about the Rogers' land ownerships. What 1776 book were you referencing about William? (Your message was gatewayed to the Middlesex County CT mailing list, so I don't know what you discussion you were responding to. I hope you are able to respond to this reply!) As it happens, a cousin from Seattle and one from Michigan will be meeting me (from Denver) there in East Haddam around Sept. 18th of 2005 to view and photograph the old Rogers' Home Lots (farms). This is one among them. Anyone interested is welcome to join us for a hike by letting me know. I have plotted out the old deeds, overlaid them on the assessor's plats, and from the remaining roads and stone walls we should be able to find them "relatively" easily. They are all within the Burnham Brook Preserve, which overlaps them now. And, my, what an odd name you have! ;-) - Jim Rogers

    3. There are some CT death records on ancestry.com. I am not sure which years. You should check first. There is some problem with people who don't fill out paperwork and they are not listed even on the ssdi, the social security death index. I am speaking of my maternal grandmother and her sister. They both died in care of their children /on social security/ and with no debts or wealth to split up since both had only one child. One died in 1968 and the other in the 1980's. Why don't you check the 1930 census to see where in CT they lived? The Heritage Quest index thru your local library on that year is pretty good. Our libraries in CT subscribe to it. I'm rather casting in several directions for my 3xgreat/grandfather. He was a Silas Beebe, born in NY state in l808, who by at least 1830 wa in the Lyme, Ct. area and married to a girl from this town. I therefore suspect that he had some relatives around here. His first son, born in l838, was named William and both Silas Beebe and his brother Nathaniel, sons of Eunice Cone who moved to NY, where old enough and married in time to be his father. My Silas' middle name also started with a "C" which could conceivably represent Cone. If you have any additional ideas for direction, please let me know. Probably wills and probate records might shed some light on whose son he was. Thanks again, Sue B.
