    1. Lt. Jonathan RUDD
    2. Jane - Thanks for your note of 2/24 outlining your lineage from Lt. Jonathan.. particularly his daughter Patience. Not too much apparently is known of this line. I'd like very much to get copies of your family group sheets (incl. b-d-m dates & places, with siblings & spouse information) so I can add this to my Rudd "Tree". I will reimburse copy & postage costs. Send to Janet L. Rudd 1034 Dunlop Avenue Forest Park, IL 60130-2216 Researchers can subscribe to the Rudd group by sending an e-mail to RUDD-L-request@rootsweb.com leave subject blank and in body of message, put only subscribe I see you are a "Michigander" my mother was from Grass Lake and my father from Ridgeway. My daughter-in-law, Nadine Knight (also a Rudd descendant) is from Bay City; and my late brother's wife is now in Northfield. Small world. I still have cousins there, too.. Grand Rapids, Holland, Gull Lake, St. Johns, etc. I'd be happy to share information with you, Jane - and look forward to hearing from you. JanetRudd in Illinois

    1. Lt. Jonathan RUDD
    2. Norris - Your question, is there any known relationship between this Jonathan Rudd and Mary Rudd, b c 1648, married Thomas Bingham maybe 1665-6, who became the martiarch of the Binghams in America? YES - Lt. Jonathan Rudd was Mary Rudd's father. Thus, all descendants of Thomas Bingham are also descendants of Lt. Jonathan Rudd. I haave two Rudd lineages: 1st, from Nathaniel [2] & his 2nd m. to Abigail Hartshorn, and also from Mary [2] & Thomas Bingham! My dau-in-law, Nadine Knight, is descended from Nathaniel [2] & his 1st m. to Mary Post... giving my grandson, (aptly named) Jonathan Rudd, 3 lineages from Lt. Jonathan Rudd! Are you a Rudd or Bingham descendant??? Genealogy/ the search for one's ancestry is a fascinating journey. I was fortunate to travel on an ancestral tour to England in 1994, visiting places inhabited by my TOWNE ancestors in 1500-1600s, and worshipped in St. Nicholas Cathedral, Great Yarmouth, where William TOWNE exchanged marriage vows with Joanna BLESSING, in 1620. What a memorable experience! JanetRudd in Illinois

During the search, we learn much about the time in which they lived, and I find that rewarding, too... makes us appreciate the present. Janet in Illinois

    3. DR. EARNEST ELLSWORTH SMITH (b.1867)died in NYC in 1930. After that, his widow, MRS LILIAN IRENE (CHURCH) SMITH(1862-1957) and their son, DR. HAROLD ELLSWORTH SMITH(1890-1974), and his wife, MADITH MACULLAR (WOOD) SMITH(1900-1991) moved to MIDDLEFIELD to live in their family home on Way Road, where they had spent summers and vacations until then. The young Dr. Harold E. Smith closed his medical practice in NYC to become a country doctor, which he loved more than anything! His wife was a city girl, and moving full time to the country took some adjustment for her, but she came to love it and called it home. ELLSWORTH CHURCH SMITH(1921-1996), their son, and their daughter, MADITH "JUNE" WOOD SMITH), grew up there, and in NY. ELLSWORTH was married to MILDRED LOUISE GARDINER (daughter of H. MARSHALL and BERTHA EMILY (CHASE) GARDINER from Nantucket) in 1947, and they built a home on a hill next to the Mince Farm in Middlefield in 5 acres of woodland. They had three children, all born in Middlefield: PETER BLAKESLEE SMITH, DALE-KIMBERLY SMITH, and JEFFREY MARSHALL SMITH. They were members of the Middlefield Federated Church. If anyone knows more about this particular SMITH family, please email me. These Smiths are cousins of Middlefield Millers, Church, Abel, and came to Middlefield from New Haven, from Scotland on the ship Hector in the 1600's. Kim nfn13753@naples.net

I'll save the Metcalfs off to a folder and then start pulling them out of the main database. So Jonathan's wife should really be 'unknown'? > Regarding your other questions, have you tried Godfrey Library in Middletown? > I understand they have an excellent collection for genealogical research. > Their website is http://www.godfrey.org Unfortunately, that's a little far away - I live in Lake Orion, MI - like so many other list owners, I've volunteered to manage a list where where my ancestors lived, and I seem to have more of them from Haddam, East Haddam, and Middlesex County in general than any other place to date. Both my grandmother's and my grandfather's families lead back there from here in Michigan. > > Are you descended from Lt. Jonathan? My line is: Jonathan Rudd (1) > Patience Rudd(2) + Samuel Bushnell > Judith Bushnell(3) + James Wright > Jude Wright(4) + Elizabeth Stone > Enos Wright(5) + Sarah Tillotson > Sibyl Wright(6) + Joseph H. Wilcox > Joseph Howard Wilcox(7) + Mary Ann Bush > William Howard Wilcox(8) + Lydia Smith > Charles Nelson Wilcox(9) + Clarissa Marr > Eva Laura Wilcox(10) - my grandmother. I'm sure that there are probably others on the list who might also be descendants, so if you would like to post the information on how to subscribe, they may be interested too. Thanks for the information. Jane

    1. Lt. Jonathan RUDD
    2. Dear Jane- Your query #5 - regarding Lt. Jonathan RUDD. Although several sources state that his bride was Mary Metcalf - this is incorrect. Her name is yet a mystery, and his birth & parents are yet to be discovered, though many still search. My husband has 2 lines from Lt. Jonathan, and my daughter-in-law has another - so my grandson, Jonathan Rudd, has 3 lineages from the progenitor of this Rudd family! My little Jonathan was born in Fairbanks, AK, in 1989 - so I think it fitting that they named him after the first Jonathan - Lt. Jonathan was a pioneer in New England, and my grandson was born in the newest part of our country! I am new to this list, and look forward to sharing information with others who are researching their ancestry. Regarding your other questions, have you tried Godfrey Library in Middletown? I understand they have an excellent collection for genealogical research. Their website is http://www.godfrey.org Are you descended from Lt. Jonathan? There is a growing list of descendants online sharing information... if you're interested in subscribing, let me know. Good luck in your research. Janet in Illinois
