Janice, I have had a couple of contacts with Scovill descendants, Rhoda Scovill b.-1764-65 was my 3x great grandmother, she married Benjamin Bates. Rhoda's parents were Josiah Scovill and Frances. Rhoda and Benjamin had son Benjamin Lewis Bates b.-1805, went to NY, his children were Birney b.-1848, William b.-1850[My g-grandfather] and FLorence.John Scovill sent me a very large Scovill file which takes the Scovills back to 1100's in England. Trying to find out more about them in Haddam, CT. and also to try and track Benjamin Lewis' to New York. Haven't located his wives yet. Also looking for Joseph Bates who m.-Ruth Lewis in Haddam,CT this was Benjamin Lewis' grandparents. Would love any info you have on these families. Looking for information on John Johnson b. 1746, Chatham, Middlesex, Co. Ct. Married Hannah Clark dau. of Jabez and Sarah Judd Clark. Interested in any information about this family. Ann Benham CABPLB@aol.com
Sandra Your Rhoda is from the John Scovil line (mine from conjectured brother Arthur). the only thing I could find at this time is that she was born 22 October 1764. This comes from the Scovil book by H. W. Brainerd (Survey of Scovils in America and England). Have you tried contacting the Haddam Historical Society, they may have something for you. Janice
Sandra You may have written to me before regarding Rhoda Scovill from Haddam (I run the Scoville mailing list), however, cannot remember. Many of my Scovilles were from Haddam, E. Haddam. Would like to discuss with you. Janice

I have from the 1880 federal census, that James N. was married to Josephine C. Clark. I also have pictures of their headstones from the Haddam Cemetery, in Haddam, CT. They had no children. She was born Dec. 28, 1843 and was dec. June 20, 1908. I am also awaiting some original documents from the census which I ordered through censusgiver.com. Or I should say the e-mail, which I had first before the web site was put up. The census giver's name is Matt Ellsworth. I do not have much on this family, as I have just begun researching them. I do, however, remember my dad mentioning an "Annie Russell", they called her "Aunt Annie". Alison P.S. Where are you located? I'm in Westchester Co., NY. ----- Original Message ----- From: Gail Howard <dardena@mix-net.net> To: <CTMIDDLE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 26, 1999 8:08 AM Subject: Re: Russell's > Hi Alison, > > I would be glad to try and help if I can. Hi Alison, I would be glad to try and help if I can. Let me have the line as far as you have it. Do you know the name of the man she married? By the way, I also go back to Williams but very early, in the 1600's. Gail Alison Pinsley wrote: > > Hi Gail, > > Thank you for the information on the Russell Family. Hi Gail, Thank you for the information on the Russell Family. The only thing I know about my connection to the Russell's is that my great-great grandmother was a Russell, but I don't know her name. This is on my father's side. My maiden name is Williams. I certainly will check out this book that you got the information you sent from. Keep in touch "cuz". I am looking for information on Capt. James N. Russell of Haddam, CT. He is buried in the Haddam Cemetery. His date of birth is 6/5/1840 and his date of death is 6/30/1896. His wife was Josephine C. Clark, d.o.b. 12/28/1843; d.o.d. 6/20/1908. He is listed on the 1880 federal census as the son-in-law of Herman Clark of Haddam, CT. He is listed on this census as being 37, but if he was born in 1840, as his cemetery stone claims, than one of these dates is incorrect. Any information on either of these families would be greatly appreciated. Alison

With the official LDS web site going on line tomorrow, 23 May 1999, (same URL as for the latest beta site, as far as I know), I found this site with an explaination of how to use the IGI and what the prefixes on the batch and film numbers mean. Thought it might help. http://users.deltanet.com/~lrawlins/igi.html Jane
