Dr. Lyman Hall was born in CT, was an unsuccessful clergyman who then became a physician and moved to Georgia. He was a delegate to the Continental Congress and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. He later was governmor of Georgia and a founder of the Univ. of Ga. His son died w/o issue. NOW: With that preamble, what was Lyman's ancestry? The Oxford Dictionary of Surnames (?) lists him as a descendant of John Hall of Middletown (my 8th G-GF). However, I believe Lyman was born in Wallingford, where another, probably unrelated John Hall lived in the 17th Century -- a contemporary of my John. Yes, people DID move around. Still, -- Which John Hall is the correct ancestor of Lyman Hall? Hi all, Just a warning to be very carefull of the double entry of Ann Wilcox for the Elder John Hall and the entry of Ann Willcocke for the younger (i.e. son) John Hall. It is the same woman and she married the younger John Hall. I also had this confusion at one time. Unfortunately, I did not record why (i.e. the source) I removed the marriage of the Elder John Hall because it seemed so obvious at the time. Hi Dexter, Joan Ranke died without progeny. William Cornwall married, second, about 1639 to a Mary (unfortunately no identified last name) The source for this includes The Connecticut Nutmegger, English Notes, page 345, Vol 9, #3 (Dec 1976); NEHGR 49:39 (Jan 1895) also printed in TAG; The Connecticut Nutmegger, English Notes, Page 578, Vol 12, #4 (March 1980); and the book William Cornwall and His Descendants by Edward Cornwall, M.D., pub 1901 by Tuttle, Morehouse and Taylor. My ancestor is Ester's and Elizabeth's sister, Sarah through her illeg. son, Benoni Plumb. Elizabeth married Captain John Hall, son of Richard Hall and Mary Anthony. Richard was the son of THE John Hall of Middletown and his wife Esther. Louise Hall Temples > That's very interesting! I have an Esther CORNWALL, my g6 grandmother, who > was b. According to LDS, Simon Hoffman was born in Middlesex County 17 Oct. 1775; his father Simon was born about 1749 and his mother Mary Butler was born in 1753 in Middletown. Simon married Chloe Bunce in Hartford 1 October 1795. I believe Simon had a brother named Joseph. In the 1820 census index for CT I saw a Joseph Hoffman, Windsor 155 Hartland, and a Simon P. Hoffman Windsor 166 Hartford. I would very much like to locate the Hoffmans, and also the parents of Mary Butler. I live in South Carolina so I would really appreciate a lookup. GMBy ookup. GMBy

I'm looking for the parents of the Sarah Bailey who married Robert Cogswell 16 January 1733 in Lebannon, CT. Robert was born in Middlesex county in 1711 and had land there during the 1730s. They were the parents of Lydia Cogswell who married David Smith in Haddam 1 July 1756. I'm also looking for the parents of the Rachel Bailey, born ca 1731/32, who married Benanuel Bonfoey in November 1752/53 in Haddam. The Brainerd-Brainard book says here parents might be Benjamin Bailey who married Rachel Brainerd, but Lydia isn't mentioned in his will. Believe me, any clue would be appreciated as I've been looking for these people since '95! Karen Prickett

Researching James West Fuller, supposedly born 6 Oct 1819 in Moodus, or East Haddam. His parents were said to be Thomas I. Fuller and Dorothy Emmons. They migrated to Housatonic, MA, sometime before 1840. James married Adeline Caroline Buck, who was born in Killingly on 10 May 1821. Her parents were David S. Buck and Hannah Whitmore. (Hannah is in The Whitmore Genealogy, but David is a puzzle.) Every Buck family in Killingly seems to have at least one David, so I don't know which one he is. He may have been born somewhere else- like the Boston area, where many CT settlers came from. Naomi Goring
