Hello List, I am searching for any information on my husband's ggg-grandfather, Phineas Dickinson, b. 1802 in Middletown, Middlesex, CT. He married Mary Maloney in Middletown, although I have since found a listing for Phineas Dickinson. It shows that he married Julia Ann Maloney of Middletown, June 3, 1832, by Rev. John Cookson. Phineas was a manufacturer of edged tools. He later moved to Ellenville, Ulster, New York. In 1841 he moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he lived until his death in 1849. Their children were: Harriet, who died when eighteen years of age; George Wesley; Warren; Elisha; another daughter; and Egbert. I have no idea who Phineas' parents were. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance, Diana Manders Dickinson --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Health - your guide to health and wellness
I got my grandmother's death certificate from Hartford. The envelope has the : Bureau of Vital Statistics, Hartford Health Department, 550 Main Street, Hartford, CT 06103. The postmark is 1993, so you may need to check to see if this is the current address.
I am doing some research for someone in MN who was so kind to do research for me in MN. She has names and death dates for her family in Manchester and Hartford. I got the State # from Ancestry.com for the death records. Where do I go from here? Does the library in Hartford have death certificates or do I go to the town clerk at Mancehster and Hartford (most died 1980's). Does the Courant or other local papers have archived obits and where do I find them? Once I find out how to do this, I can also research my wife's side from Cromwell & Middletown. Thanks for checking for me. Mary Charlene wrote: Mary, I'm sorry. I don't have anyone in my book who fits your description. I welcome inquiries, but while my Johnson book has thousands of names profiled, it also has that many that are not. For instance, Aaron Johnson, born 1806, and his brother, Lorenzo, born 1813, had plural wives and 70 children between them. While the children's names are listed in the book, future generations from these children are not. Good luck. Does anyone know where the minister Jas W. Horne was located in 1879? Could it have been Meriden? A marriage performed by him and recorded in Clinton does not state the location of the wedding, and could have been performed elsewhere if one of the parties resided in the other town. I'm stumped on this one. Carol Hubbell Boggs
Thanks to Janice and Janece I found another record of use to my research in Clinton Marriages. I wouldn't have looked in Clinton if you hadn't posted it on the web - nothing pointed there. Keep up the good work! Carol Boggs

Thanks for posting it to the web where everyone can access it. Jane list mom http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jdevlin/
My grandparents were divorced in Middletown in the 1930s. Can someone tell me how to access that info? Thanks! Susan Sanford Sellew (born in Middletown)
I have finished uploading the Clinton marriages through 1905. I just added them to the existing file. I have also submitted this file in the rootsweb contributed marriage data bases. These records were certainly challenging for me. I really appreciate anyone who has stopped to share their information with us--regardless if that information is in our family or not. Thank you to all the contributors and that includes this list members who contribute with their questions and comments. Charlene: I have a Jane Johnson who married Stepehn Meigs in New London CT in 1731. The only other information I have that she died Aug 8 1756 but I don't know where. I would be interested to know if your reference has any mention as to who her parents might be? Mary Austill Houston TX [email protected] Charlene wrote: My Johnson Genealogy reference, which I believe to be pretty accurate, lists Joshua Johnson (1/8/1788?-10/11/1849) as being the son of Stephen Johnson (7/8/1740- 1801); the grandson of Stephen Johnson (2/8/1714-2/2/1796); and the great-grandson of Isaac Johnson (12/19/1670-3/23/1744). Joshua Johnson married Experience Tibbals, daughter of Eber and Sarah (Wilcox) Tibbals. She was born 3/1/1781. Her death date is unknown. It states in my book "After Joshua's death in 1849, his widow probably removed to Michigan with some of her children, about 1858. There were 13 children. They were in Jefferson Co., N.Y. in 1820. In 1824, they went to Ohio." If you are interested in purchasing the genealogy book on the Johnsons, let me know. Hope this helps. Thanks for the Reeds! I appreciate it. Carol
Carol, These are the Reeds I have in my book: Nellie C. Johnson married Lewis E. Reed, born 1879 in Ohiowa, Nebraska; their son, Hollis b. 1902 in Tecumseh, Nebraska. Lewis Reed was the son of James F. and Caroline A. Reed. Hannah Johnson, born 1793, married Jacob Reed. Moses Johnson married Ruth Whitman Reed in 1795. She was the widow of Jesse Reed, born 1755 at Abington, Mass. Chloe Johnson, born 1792, married William Reed (no dates for him or parents). Charlene
I just uploaded the T-Y surnames from the Saybrook Barbour records, once again courtesy of Coralynn Brown. Also a short sketch on the Physicians of Middletown, from the 1853 Centennial Address by Rev. David D. FIELD. If anyone has Thomas MINOR, M.D. or Henry WOODWARD, M.D. in their family tree, you'll find fairly lengthy biographies of these two gentlemen as well as short sketches of the other early doctors who practiced in the area. Charlene, I'm not ready to give up yet, which Reeds were they, and where were they located? In CT, or Upstate NY? They seem to have spread pretty widely, starting out in NY apparently. Carol
Dear Carol, I have checked my genealogy book. As I have said, it is pretty comprehensive, but I am sure there are probably some not in here. However, I found no John C. Reed married to Rebecca Johnson, although there were some "Reeds" listed. This is a HUGE family. Sorry I couldn't help you. Charlene
