I saw a previous recent posting about Eddy Burnham, and replied there was at least one listing for him in the E.H. land record indexes. Now I see another posting. I am under the impression that, with the exception of Jacob, Nathan, and Joshua Burnham, the other Burnhams of E.H. all lived closer to the Connecticut River (west side) than they did to the Salem Town line (east side). The three mentioned lived in the S.E. part of the town, south of Crowley Corner and east of Eight Mile River. I know of a "David" Burnham who moved from E.H. to Colchester around 1783, and knowing where the other Burnhams lived could be helpful in properly identifying the seller, John Rogers. Were the Burnhams perhaps involved with the members of the family of Thomas Rogers, who lived around 1760 between the first and second land divisions of the town? Any comments welcomed. - Jim Rogers

Hi Listers ~ Does anyone have a 1930 directory available for Middletown? My John B. WETHERBEE was in New York City in 1925, but disappears after that. I know he had a brother in Middletown, who d. around 1924 and he grew up in Middletown.....I'm hoping that maybe he moved back there. If I can narrow it down, maybe I can find him in the 1930 census. TIA, Dianne

Sue Woodworth wrote: :Would someone please explain to me how to figure out - in the :Barbour Records for Middletown - which Joseph Hubbard is the :father of Joseph 2nd who married Sara Brooks. Do I presume that it :is the Joseph directly above Joseph 2nd? Hi Sue, In cases of ambiguity, the safest method is to establish the identities of *each* of the duplicate candidates. That method is how I can differentiate this Sarah Brooks from the dozens of other women in CT with the same name. You might find that Joseph Hubbard, bridegroom, is "none of the above" with regard to Barbour's listings for Josephs born at Middletown. (He might have been born elsewhere, or might be one of the MIAs whose birth is not recorded in Barbour.) The application of male suffixes such as Jr. and 2nd varies, and you cannot rely on it literally to establish ancestral chains. For example, two second cousins named Daniel Brooks were contemporary residents for several decades at Concord, MA. The cousin who lived there first was known as Daniel, while the cousin who moved there a few years following was known as Daniel 2d to distinguish him. I spent two years untangling a similar knot with men named Nathaniel and Nathaniel Brooks 2d at Worcester, MA. These again proved to be contemporary cousins, not father and son. Sorry this isn't the "simple" answer you may have hoped for. :-) Chris
I am descended from Deacon Apollos Arnold, also, but I found most of my information on his children in the Connecticut State Library -- Book 26, Connecticut Church Records; East Hampton Church (formerly Chatham) 1748-1930; published in 1936 by the Connecticut State Library. I have attached a word document concerning Apollos and his family. Records of the First Congregational Church in Chatham (which became East Hampton in 1915)list the birth, baptism, marriage, and/or deaths of 10 children for Deacon Apollos and Lucy (Bill) Arnold. I have more information on this line in either direction. Just let me know if you're interested. My email address is <[email protected]>. The Barbour Collection for Chatham has: Arnold, Nancy, d. Appoles & Lucy, b. Oct. 17, 1787, page 154 Gideon, s. Appoles & Lucy, b. July 8, 1789, page 154 Laura, d. Appoles & Lucy, b.
